Chapter 16: A Pretty Dam Awesome Date
***Percy's POV***
After a lot of begging to Chiron, some wardrobe help from Piper, and a prayer to my dad, I was pretty much ready for my date.
I begged Chiron to let Annabeth and I have dinner on the beach instead of with the other campers. At first he was adamant about it, absolutely no campers could be left alone if he thought they might make out, but with the circumstances he agreed to let us but we had to have one chaperone. And you know which camper was first to volunteer for that. Yayy. Piper was coming on our date (Feel the sarcasm). She promised to stay out of it and observe from a distance which I'm pretty sure she would've done even without permission.
Piper also helped me out with a wardrobe change. While I thought my clothes were fine, jeans and camp T-shirt, Piper refused to let me wear them. "I cannot sit and watch you on a date when you like a hobo. I'm sure Annabeth will look lovely," she told me. "Annabeth looks lovely in everything," was my response. "Good. Practice kissing up to people, you'll need that tonight. But you'll also need a handsome suit, so come with me." I have a feeling Aphrodite influenced her, a lot. I had to admit, I did look pretty handsome. My stunning green eyes and black hair really pulled it off. Not to toot my own horn, but toot-toot.
Lastly, I prayed to my father. "Um. Hey Dad. I don't know if you can hear me. Well I guess you can. Anyways, if you've been watching you probably know about Annabeth and I, or Aphrodite told you. Most likely the former, Aphrodite does love her gossip. I just wanted to ask for a small favor. Tonight I have a great date planned and it's on the beach. If you could make the waves calm for today, that would just be amazing. You could be like my wingman! Okay, that's a little weird but whatever. Thanks I guess. Or not if you don't do it. Please do it." It was an awkward experience, just sitting on my bed praying to the air. I hope he heard and helped me out.
When I told Piper that Annabeth looked beautiful in everything it was the truth. I didn't care what she wore to our date. I hadn't told her it would be fancy or anything 'cause I didn't want her to make a big deal or anything which is funny since I'm making a huge deal out of it. I took the kind of plates and cups that magically make whatever you want from the Pavilion and set them out on a blanket on the beach. We were gonna have a waterfront picnic. I am pretty proud of myself for thinking up all this romance on my own. Okay, Piper helped, but it was mostly me.
When I heard the conch shell blow signaling dinner I prepared myself. I had told Annabeth to come to the beach when she heard it. I take deep calming breaths to relax my nerves. It's just a regular date, I tell myself, calm down.
And then she appears. Like an Angel descending from Heaven. Her hair looked like a princess', like it had when I first saw her. She was wearing a soft pink dress with ruffles and just wow. (AN: to imagine, think Hermione's dress in GoF at the ball cuz that's how I imagined it even tho my description sucks. It is Percy's POV and he has no idea how to describe girly things). She looks at me and her face lights up and I feel so insanely happy that nothing else could ever ruin this moment. "Annabeth," I breathe, "you..."
"What? Piper put me in this. I can change if you don't really like it," she quickly says.
"Like it? Annabeth, you look gorgeous!" I tell her.
"It's just this dress and the hair and the makeup and it's all so...girly."
"You would look beautiful in anything. If I thought you still looked wonderful covered in sweat and grime in the depths of Tartarus, well I don't think you can get worse than that."
Her cheeks severely flush at my compliment. "You thought I looked pretty even in Tartarus?" She asks.
"I always think you're pretty," I respond and then I kiss her. It's a soft, sweet, long kiss that promises more once they aren't on the beach being observed and under strict rules. "Just so you know, Piper is watching us from somewhere. Chiron said we had to have a chaperone. No making out."
"Oh come on. It's not like Piper would stop us," says Annabeth.
"I can hear you, you know!!" Calls Piper from an unknown location.
"Shut up!" Annabeth yells back.
We walk to the picnic I have set out and each take a seat on opposite sides of the blanket. I never really noticed how the sunset turns Annabeth's eyes into a yellow, almost gold and how pretty her hair was and that her hand was really quite small lying in mine and-sorry. I got a little distracted.
I'll save you the sappy details and just say that the night was great. I imagined fireworks being set off on the beach and a mariachi band playing. Nothing could have made it more perfect. I don't know if it was just being near the water, or being with Annabeth, but I felt as if I could do anything. The water was clear and calm, just like I wanted. Gentle, warm waves lapped up against the shore, begging to be swum in.
The sun had long gone down and we were still on the beach when we heard someone loudly clear their throat behind us. It was Piper, "Er um. Sorry to interrupt it's just that it is almost curfew and I don't think that the harpies will make a great addition to this lovely evening. You both really need to get back to your cabins."
"Piper," groans Annabeth, "why must you ruin everything?"
"I'm really sorry!! I just, well I'm supposed to chaperone and this is like part of it," cries Piper.
"Oh all right," Annabeth consents. "I'm coming, don't get your panties in a wad. Percy, help me up." I pulled her up and gave her one last long kiss. "Bye Seaweed Brain. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Okay."
"I love you."
"I love you more."
"It's quite adorable, but please Annabeth," says Piper, ruining a great moment.
"Bye," I say.
"Bye," Annabeth answers.
I don't think any date in the whole worlds history could ever even come close to the awesomeness of that date because I was there. And it was pretty dam awesome.
AN: Okay. So I know it seems like the story is over. But it isn't. I still have more things to add. Percabeth is all good now but what about Frazel? Jiper? Caleo? And where is our (well mine) favorite little demigod during this? Did someone say, Nico? You shall have to wait and find out. I have big plans in store. And OMG. Thank you all for almost 1.5k. You all make me so happy
