Days Gone By

Chapter 5

Tonys group had two vehicals that they used to come on their run so we piled back into our SUV hoping in a way that it wouldn't take long for the infection to set in on Cassie. Yes that seems mean but we don't want her to suffer any more than she has to. We all cried and talked as we drove down the road. Then it was finally time to stop. Jake blew the horn to signal the others that we had to stop.

"Cassie's P.O.V"

The ride was wearing on me and I was at my wits end. I couldn't handle the pain of the infection spreading any longer.

"Ggguys, wweee have to..to stop. I cant" I told them weakly

They all turned and look at me with tear filled eyes. I knew this was killing them. We had all promised to protect the others and they all felt like they had failed me. Deep down I was glad that it was me that had to go instead of any of them. I was weaker than them and they had more of a chance at surviving now that they had found this new group.

Jake pulled over and they all got out to help me. They had just finished propping me against a large oak tree when Tony's group walked up.

"Whats going on?" I hear Tony ask as he walks up

"I can't keep going. Its spreading too fast, the pain is just tttoo much." I tell him breathing getting rougher with each word.

He pulls out his gun and points it at me. Before I knew what was going on Alexis is on him knocking him and his gun to the ground. Tony jumps back up raising all kinds of hell.

"Don't you fucking point that gun at my sister." She screams

"So what you just want her to suffer. That's pretty damn cold if you ask me." Tony screams back he kinda had a point but he shouldn't have tried to act like a bad ass. I'm dying and I know that my family is having a hard enough time with this.

"Go to hell you heartless bastard. This shit is already bad enough you don't get the trill of this kill." She half cries instead of screaming this time.

"Fuck it when she turns and gets you too then that's your problem." He turns around and walks back toward his group who all seemed to have alexis's side on this one,

Alexis Jake and Jade all sit around me each taking their turns at saying their goodbyes. They would be OK without me I know they would even if at this time they don't feel the same way. I will miss them, and I know that they will miss me too. I couldn't help but cry with them. Finally Jake and Jade get up and leave me alone with Alexis.

"Cassie, I don't want to lose you. I failed at keeping you safe." she sobbed into my shoulder.

"Alexis your going to be fine. Now you have them to take care of. Keep them safe. All of them." I say looking over at the group with Tony. "Yall have to go now Alexis it wont be long."

She got up and stood there a moment before handing me one of my pistols back with one round, and kissed me one last time before she walked away lookin over her shoulder several times before reaching the truck.........
