Monster Love (Eclipsa's Past)

New Queen

Hey guys, Snowflake here making a new chap for this project of mine. Read on.

It started off as a normal day for 13 year-old Eclipsa. Not for long though.

As always, she was looking around the Mewnian library, looking for history books or anything that looked interesting enough to read. She was humming along to her favorite song and was picking out a book from an old shelf.

She must've set off the balance though because the shelf collapsed immediately. When she went out of her shock, she started putting it all back together and picked up the books. Behind the shelf though, something seemed off.

She touched it and it was a small door. Eclipsa was curious and opened it to reveal an small old black book. She carefully reached for it and cleared the dust. The pages were yellow, crinkly, very delicate.

Eclipsa was about to open the cover when a guard came running through the doors, yelling for the princess. 

She rushed forward, leaving the piles of books behind, but slipping the black one into her book bag.

"What's going on?!" she asked frantically.

"Your majesty," he gasped for air. "We need you...the queen. She was ambushed."

Eclipsa's eyes widened. Her mother? Her mother was very smart, there was no way anything could've happened to her!

She pushed through the guard and ran to the healing room to find a bed with with sheets pulled up, covering a body.

She was too late.

Eclipsa tried steadying her breathing as she took small steps to the bed. A castle healer slowly uncovered the body.

Her mother. Solaria.....Solaria Butterfly. A legend that defeated hundreds of monsters....was gone.

"She's sleeping..." whispered Eclipsa. "She's sleeping!" she raised her voice as it cracked. Now she was crying and shaking.

"She's not gone! SHE'S NOT...DEAD!"

Guards pulled her away from the bed and out of the room. She screamed and cried, thrasing, kicking, and punching. 

The guards set her down, but didn't know what else to do, so they let her grieve. 

She wept and wept, but she knew, no matter what, nothing would bring her mother back. Nothing...

"*cough* Your majesty...I know your mother just passed, but, what's gonna happen? With the raids?" 

A second guard spoke up. "Basically what he means, you majesty, is that, we believe that you are the new queen."

Eclipsa stopped crying and looked up. "But...but I'm too young. I'm thirteen, I can't run a kingdom!"

"I'm sorry, but, you are the only heir."

"No! There are soldiers and generals and...and KNIGHTS! They lead! I don't! That's my mother's job!" She cried again. She couldn't believe what she was facing. Run the kingdom? Impossible!

...But, she has been reading up on a lot of history. She learned the different types of leaderships and decisions taken in the past. It wasn't...impossible.

This was her kingdom. Her time was just...very rushed. It was her turn to lead, and she wouldn't disappoint her people. She knew this was what her mother would have wanted.

She wiped the tears off her face and looked up to the guards. "Ok, I believe then that...I am...queen. I believe my first order would be...to set my mother's funeral. I don't want anyone attending except me and the Magical High Commission. I need to...talk to them."

The two guards just nodded and shuffled away to deliver the new queens orders.

Eclipsa got up from the ground and got ready for the funeral.

Eclipsa walked into her room and threw her things at the door. She remembered her mother, which brought her to more tears.

At the funeral, she didn't grieve. She felt uncomfortable crying in front of people, plus, she was the new queen. She had to be strong. So now, alone in the dark room, she got rid of all tears that she had held in.

Her mother, even if she was out for battle for long periods of time, she still had time for her daughter. Many people thought of her as a rebel because she shaved her hair off, but Eclipsa thought it made her seem more beautiful and powerful. Only she knew that loving side of her mother. It was a secret she kept.

She looked up from her pillow, which was now soaked in tears, and faced the door. She got up to pick up her book bag. Better start studying more, right?

When she picked up her bag though, the black book from the library fell out. Eclipsa picked it up and studied it again. It seemed to have some power over her, but that's silly, it's just a book!

She went back over to her bed and let the light from the window light up book. She finally opened it to see weird symbols and what seemed like incantations. None of it looked familiar.

She kept flipping through the pages until she heard something like large pages turning. It was Glossaryck and the Book of Spells, which, her mother let her barrow to start learning magic.

Eclipsa quickly closed the black book and hid it behind her. 

"Young lady, what were you reading?"

"Um, nothing! Just...more history books" she said waving another book about ancient leaders.

"Hm, I clearly remember you having another book, which, you have behind you," he said, already knowing that she was clearly lying to him.

Eclipsa sighed, knowing she couldn't fool Gloss. She didn't know if anyone ever has.

"Ok, here. I found this in the library this morning," she said pulling out the book and showing it to him. "It looked really old and, I don't know. Thought I'd learn something new from it."

Glossaryck stood still and didn't speak for a while. Eclipsa thought he had froze in time or something.

"Um, Gloss-?"

"Do you know what you have just found?"

She shook her head, more confused than ever.

"Young lady, you've just found the oldest record of Dark Magic ever known."

Eclipsa gasped slightly. 'Dark...magic?' she thought. She gripped the book harder as the night changed and had a more acrid scent to it. Things wouldn't ever be the same.

O...kaaaaaay. This chapter was messy, honestly, but I needed an introduction to dark magic and Eclipsa's mother's death. The next few chapter are more leading, but soon enough we'll get to the more interesting parts. See ya laters!
