Penny Haywood x Ravenclaw reader
Potions was your favourite class. It was the part of the day that you always looked forward to. It was the first homework you did after class and the first assignment you started working on during any break. Not many Ravenclaws in your year like potions too much so it's not their main focus, normally relying on you to explain what happens in the class while they do their other homework instead of listening to Snape. Sometimes you make up some ridiculous stuff just to see how much they'll believe. There was two reasons why this class was your favourite. One reason was that you could do anything with potions. There was a potion for anything and it was fun making them. You fucked up making it? It's okay you still had fun and you probably ended up making a different potion anyway.
"You're here early." That was the second reason why potions was your favourite. Penny Haywood. She was a Hufflepuff and probably the only other person in your year who was as passionate about potions as you were. You looked up from your textbook, smiling at her as she took her seat. She tilted her head and looked at your textbook, snatching it before you could react. You gasped and tried to grab it back but Penny giggled and ran off with it, making sure to keep the book open to the page you were on. She started reading the page. "A love potion?"
"I know it sounds like a shitty excuse but it's for a friend." You said, stumbling on your words. It was honestly true but the questioning look on Penny's face made you question yourself even though you knew you were telling the truth. She laughed and shook her head, walking back over and placing your book back in front of you.
"Alright, if you say so." Penny said as she sat back down in her seat adjacent from you. You nodded at her and started going back to reading. You could hear her foot tapping and you knew she was restless and couldn't go ten second without talking or moving around. She lasted about five seconds before she started hounding you with questions about the potion. "Who's it for? Like I mean which one of your friends wants to use it. But also who are they going to use it on? And how do you plan on making it? Do you want me to help?"
You looked at her for a few seconds after she finished with her questions, making sure she was done talking and trying to process everything she just said. "I mean I'm not going to tell you the people involved but all I'm going to say is that it's a relationship that a fair few people have been hoping for. And I was just going to make it in class, y'know tell Snape I'm challenging myself to learn new potions. Also I mean like I'm not going to stop you from helping me."
Penny nodded in thought at what you said, getting up without another word and motioning you to get up as well. She went with you to go ask Snape if the two of you could learn a new potion instead of wasting time by going over notes you had already memorized during the study period. He very reluctantly agreed and you were sure he would keep a close eye on the two of you as you worked. Penny gave you a smile that made your heart weak as she took your arm and brought you over to the ingredients station. After the two of you finished getting all the ingredients, you went back to your table, starting to brew the potion. She was humming a song as she crushed and measured the ingredients. You didn't bother getting in her way as she clearly knew what she was doing better than you did.
"You seem to know your way around this potion. You made it before or something?" You joked, Penny getting flustered, her cheeking going bright red as she started trying to think of words to say. You laughed and made a mental note to ask her about it later. She continued making the potion without saying anything else, which made you even more suspicious of the situation because that managed to shut her up.
"Do you want to maybe study for the potions exam with me later?" You asked, not realizing that it sounded like you were asking her on a study date date instead of just like a platonic study date until you saw the slight shock on her face. Your friendship with Penny had always been flirty and you would love to go on a date with her but like you would never say that and you thought she was straight so you never saw a point in asking her out. Her shocked look turned into a small smile with a subtle pink blush on her face and she wouldn't keep eye contact. You interpreted all of that as embarrassment, maybe because she didn't want you to ask her out or because she realized that she might have been leading you on. But thankfully neither of those were true and not everything ends up being the worst case scenario.
"I'll be free after dinner tonight. Meet me at the door to Hufflepuff common room, I'll let you in." She said. Class was conveniently dismissed right after she said that and you couldn't mess anything up by ruining whatever you were going to have with Penny. Your eyes met and you exchanged a smile before she gave you a quick kiss on the cheek and then ran off to her next class before you could even process what had just happened.
