Chapter 6

~Kai's POV~

As I exit out of Ein's house, I grab my phone and see that school was already let out. The sun was setting and the sky had its vibrant reddish orange and blue color. I unlock my phone to scroll through my contacts and stopped once I saw Aph's name.

~Kai~ "Hey Aph!!" 5:30 p.m.

~Aph~ "Hey. Is everything alright? You and Ein weren't at school. Jess and I was starting to get worried about you guys." 5:35 p.m.

~Kai~ "Heh, sorry about that. Anyways, grab Jess and meet me in front of the school in 10 min. It's urgent." 5:37 p.m.

~Aph~ "Okay, got it! We'll meet you in 10." 5:37 p.m.

I turn my phone off and give out a small, exhausted sigh.

"What am I going to do?" I say, mumbling to myself. I start walking again, taking the long route, since it takes only 3 minutes to get to the school from here. As I make my way there, I start to think of what had just happened. This day has been a handful and it seemed to be getting worse by the minute. I have a plan set in mind and hopefully, it goes well.

~10 minutes later~

As I get closer to the school, I spot two people standing at the front of the school gate.

"APH!! JESSICA!!!" I wave my hand in the air, trying to grab their attention.

"HEEEY!!!" Aph yells out, doing the same thing I had done.

"OI! Where have you been Kai?... and where's Ein?" Jessica asks in a curious, energetic tone.

"He's back at the house," I say slowly. "

"Oh. So he's not with you..." Jessica's head droops down to the ground and so does her tail and ears.

"Is he okay?" I hear Aphmau ask, worriedly. I look down towards the ground as well, trying so hard not to choke.

"Yeah, sort of." Aphmau tilts her head slightly to the right, obviously confused. I move towards Aph and I grab her wrist, pulling her away from Jessica.

"Hey! Where are you guys going?!" I look back at Jessica, following behind us.

"We'll be right back Jess. I have to tell Aph something in private real quick so please wait here for us." I could see the worry in her eyes, but she instantly reverts back to her energetic little self.

"Yeah, I guess, but be quick!!"

"We will!" I yell back.

I go around the back of the school, turning my head back every minute to check to see if Jess had followed us. After I knew the coast was clear, I let go of Aph's wrist, my heart beating faster by the minute.

"What's wrong Kai? You look like you just saw a ghost." A sweat drop goes down the side of my cheek, and my hands were getting colder by the second. I clench my hands into fists, also feeling the inside of my mouth going dry. I shake my head, clearing the thoughts in my head before speaking. I took one last breath and looked directly into Aph's eyes.

"Something happened to Ein and Jess's parents." I say quietly, cautious of anybody hearing us, especially Jess.

"What?! Are they okay?!" My heart starts to beat faster now, as if it's going to pound out of my chest. My ears start to droop down now and so does my tail.

"Yeah," I say, "their mom is uninjured but their dad was being rushed to the hospital." Aphmau covers her mouth with both of her hands, the color in her face, slowly fading away.
