Chapter 17
Maddie finally got home to her apartment, changed out of her dress, and into jeans and a t-shirt. Maddie put on her leather jacket and equipped herself with her weapons, along with her gloves she used for hunting. She attached her belt to her waist and supplied it with daggers, sword, guns, and other necessary weapons for what was going to attack Black Chapel. Maddie quickly put her hair up in a ponytail, and put on her heels to leave. Ignoring the whining from her dog, Maddie knew that she had to go home and see if her family was okay. The damage was so horrible in Black Chapel that she had to go home and see if her siblings were okay. Maddie was clueless where Mason was, and he and Paul were not answering their phones.
Maddie walked out of her apartment, and started to run to her childhood home. Passing through the crisp and ash-like air, Maddie saw all the homes that were destroyed along with dead bodies everywhere she looked. It looked as if a giant bomb exploded and killed everyone in the town. The bodies were too gruesome to look at, and Maddie wanted to vomit at all the body parts she tripped over. Hearing all the cries and sobs for help, Maddie felt her throat get dry and raw from despair. Annabeth caused this disaster to happen, and Maddie was so sure of it.
Walking towards her house, Maddie felt her heart drop when she saw Alex helping Paul to the door. Oh shit, Maddie said to herself. She ran towards Alex and Paul, and almost passed out when she saw the giant gash on Paul's head. Alex didn't seem physically hurt, and Maddie was little bit relived to see that. Maddie threw her arms around both of them and hugged them tightly. She let go of the both of them and examined Paul's gash.
"What the hell happened?" Maddie asked Alex, holding Paul's head up.
"A lot happened," Alex explained.
"Where's Lizzie?" Maddie asked with panic.
"With Aunt Jessie, hiding out," Alex told her. "I'm fine, but there was a huge battle between us and a bunch of those B.L.O.O.D idiots. It's not just hunters and demi-gods; it's pretty much every creature involved, and now it's hard to know who we can all trust."
"Tell me about it," Maddie muttered under her breath. "Kai Blackthorn is one of them."
"Where did you even go?" Alex asked her. "I was worr—I mean everyone was worried about where you went. You weren't answering my calls, and by my calls I'm speaking about the family as a whole."
"My phone was dead." Maddie looked at Paul's gash and saw how deep it was. He needed medical help right away. "We have to get Paul inside and heal him up." Maddie hugged her little brother again and felt like crying. There was a loud boom, along with screeches of pain. Maddie gasped and knew what was going to happen. She stared at Alex and he kept a straight face.
"Get inside, lock the doors, and heal Paul up!" Alex demanded quickly. Maddie nodded her head, but she hated Alex going back there by himself.
"Alex," Maddie called out to him. It was going to kill her to apologize to him, but it had to be done. She acted like a jerk to him on the night that was the most important to him. Alex turned around and faced her.
"Me too about everything I said." Alex smiled at her and nodded his head. Maddie smiled back and was happy they were cool again. He ran out to the battle field as Maddie helped Paul inside the house, put him on the chair in the living room, and locked the door.
Maddie ran over towards the other side of the house to the mini infirmary they had. Maddie frantically searched through Alex's mother's medical supplies, but all she could find was peroxide, cotton swabs, and Band-Aids. Maddie swore in her head. There had to be more in this room; Penny McNamara was a doctor after all. Maddie ransacked the office and found all healing objects, crystals, and medicine were gone. I guess what I have will do.
