Chapter Thirteen - Scars and Promises

Chapter 13

Elena's POV

"And then I woke up in the hospital the next day " I ended my story. I wiped the tears falling from my eyes from the memory I didn't want to be reminded of.

I watched for Louis' reaction but it was like he was in shock. He was just staring at me with a blank look and I swear I saw a tear escape his eye and roll down his cheek. His eyes were suddenly interested in the ground.

"Lou?" I said hesitantly, but I got no reply.  

"Louis!" I said louder.

"Who saved you? What happened to him?" Louis asked.

"My other best friend at the time, Hayley, it was her brother, Ben. He died there, I haven't talked to Hales since his funeral."

"What happened to Connor?" Louis asked expressionless.

"He was taken to the police station and arrested but I don't really know"

"When did this happen El?" Louis' voice echoed through the room even though it was just above a whisper.

"About 4-5 months ago" I said shakily.

"Why didn't you tell me? I wouldn't have asked you to stay with the boys and I, I would have just spent time with you without the boys"

"You couldn't have done anything Lou! You were on tour, there was nothing you could have done!" I said starting to remember all the times I wanted to talk to him and he was busy. I didn't blame him though he was living his dream.

"El You know I would give up anything for you! You could have just told me" Louis responded. I have to admit I felt bad for bringing up the fact he wasn't physically there for me, he can't help it.

"Um.. You're free to go home now love" The nurse said hesitantly, not wanting to interrupt, "Here are some crutches for you to use and I would advise you to stay off your foot for a good 4-5 days, it's just a sprain but resting it will make recovery quicker, and your painkillers are here too."

"Okay. Thanks"

Lou and I made our way to his car because the others were meeting us home.

The ride there was eerily silent, not the normal comfortable silence we usually have. We pulled up to the house but neither of us got out of the car.

"I'm Sorry... I shouldn't have gone off at you. I know it's not your fault, and I could have just told you over the phone" I apologized breaking the silence.

"No... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have snapped at you." He paused and opened the car door to get out while I followed grabbing my crutches. "You know I would drop anything for my baby cousin, I'm only a phone call away" He continued with a smile and gave me a hug.

"I know Lou. And Hey! I'm not that much younger than you!"

"I'm still older than you! You'll always be my baby cousin" He said chuckling. " Oh and El, one more thing, Niall wouldn't do anything to intentionally hurt you, give him a chance, and I think it would be a good idea to explain what you've been through to him"

"Thanks Louis, I'll think about it" I said opening the door and immediately getting tackled by 5 sets of arms causing me to almost drop the crutches in my hands.

"Woah guys! Injured person here." I tried to say.

"We we're so worried!"

"Please don't do that ever again!"

"Guys. Let... Go, can't... Breathe" I said.

Everyone took a step back and mumbled their apologies. My eyes scanned the room until they met with the blue eyes I was looking for. Niall gave me a sad smile then turned his attention anywhere but to me, I sighed, he still blames himself.

A yawn escaped my mouth and I realised how exhausted I was.

"Go get some rest Elena, it's been a long day" Liam said giving me a hug goodnight.

"Yeah, Goodnight guys" I said rubbing my eyes making my way slowly to the room me and Niall share.

I jumped into bed and let exhaustion take over.

Niall's POV:

I watched Elena limp to our room and gave a sigh, this is all my fault. I ruined my chance, I knew there wasn't any possibility she would like me.

I don't know what's happening with me, my carefree attitude just wasn't coming through, I felt so low and guilty.

"Nialler, It's okay, It's not your fault" I heard Louis say to me sitting down on the sofa beside me.

"Of course it is Lou, If I didn't kiss her then she wouldn't have been hurt or gone to hospital..." I replied trying not to let the guilty tears fall from my eyes, "I shouldn't have just assumed she liked me too when I was obviously wrong.."

"Look I know for a fact it wasn't your fault," He said, "It wasn't you that hurt her" I noticed that his hands were balled into fists and he spat the last sentence. I raised my eyebrows.

"Nevermind Niall, it's not my place to tell, she'll tell you when she's ready" He said standing up, "Just don't beat yourself up about it mate" He walked over to the others leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I think I just need to give Elena some space and try to move on. I put my hand over my mouth as I yawned. I got up and made my way to bed.

"Night Lads and Ava" I said receiving 'Goodnight Niall' as a reply.  

I walked into mine and Elena's room and got ready for bed. I looked over to Elena's bed and chuckled when I saw that she had kicked off her blankets so I walked over to her bed to cover her up when I realised her singlet had ridden up a little bit to reveal a bit of the side of her stomach, but that didnt make me freeze. A faint white scar ran up her side in a line, what had happened to this beautiful girl in the past?

I carefully pulled her blankets over her and she stirred a little bit in her sleep and mumbled something but I ignored it and placed a small kiss to her forehead.

"Niall.." She mumbled and I thought she had woken up but she just stirred and fell back into her sleep with a small smile on her face. She looked so peaceful.

I hopped into bed and studied the ceiling letting thoughts run through my mind. Images of Elena's scar on her side flashed in my mind so right then I made a promise Elena and also myself. I whispered out loud.

"I promise I'll never hurt you Elena, I promise to protect you no matter what"

And with that I drifted into a dreamless sleep.

A/N : Sorry for not updating in 4637493 weeks! Didn't really know where I was going with the story but now I'm back!  

I wrote this on my phone and I didn't proofread or edit! But I will when I get the laptop!

Aaaaannd sorry that this chapter is short too!

aand yay I'm 16 now! It was my birthday last saturday!! :D
