After helping me back to the shallow end, I took a cool, refreshing sip of my beer before sitting on the ladder, my feet floating in front of me.
"So, it only took two days, huh?" James' voice interrupted my thoughts. Axe and I looked at each other with a confused look.
"Two days?" I asked, taking another sip.
"You don't want to admit it to me, that's fine, but, at least say it to each other, Jesus. I told you she was infatuating, didn't I? I told you that first week I met her that I thought you'd like her. Hell, even Sammi likes her and, lemme tell ya, Jeanie, my wife hates everyone." He chuckled before wiping his hand over his face.
"I thought she hated me, to be honest." I laughed at the thought. Sammi was a spunky lady and she kept a loose leash on James. I always liked her, but I just assumed she hated me.
"She's the reason you're here. She told me two weeks ago to introduce you two and I didn't. When I found out I had to let you go, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity." I stood in awe. Note to self- thank Sammi.
"We haven't slept together, if that's what you're asking." I scoffed.
"Wasn't asking, don't care." He replied, throwing his hands up.
"But, yes, we have hit it off pretty well, wouldn't you say, Axe." I chuckled, remembering our last kiss before we tumbled out of his chair.
"Very." He smiled, wrapping his hand around my thigh. "Now that I don't have to hide it, I feel a little relieved." He smiled.
"Alright, kids, I have to go pick up Sammi from the airport, we'll meet you for dinner at 8." James hopped out of the pool and dried off. Axe leaned in to kiss me, his hand softly caressing the back of my shoulder when I winced in searing pain. His hand drew back quickly.
"Sunburn?" He asked.
"Desk chair." I giggled. He kissed my shoulder softly before helping me out of the pool.
"Well, then, let's get you some ibuprofen and a fresh beer- just what the doctor ordered." Axe's laugh reverberated through my soul.
Yes. Lets.
