"Ding ding." rang our doorbell.

"I've got it!" I yelled for everyone in the house to hear, as I ran downstairs.

I opened the door to a boy about 5 inches taller than me. He looks about the same age as me. He is holding out a plate of cookies and wearing a shy, awkward smile.

"Hello." I say smiling.

"Hi. I brought you and your family cookies, you know, a new neighbor house warming gift."

"Oh, well thanks."

He hands me the cookies and I step aside.

"You can come in if you want." I say kindly, hoping he will.

"Sure, i'd love to, I mean I'd like to." he said blushing.

He comes in and shuts the door. I start making my way towards the kitchen to set down the cookies.

"Oh yeah, my name is Hazel Demmings." I say turning around to look back at him.

Then I notice his eyes. They are a bright, vibrant blue, and they are gorgeous.

"The name's nash grier." he says, giving me a toothy smile. "You have really pretty eyes. They're so green."

I blush. "You have really blue eyes, they look really good on you."

What am I saying? I sound like a doofus. He smiles, though, and looks down at his shoes.

"Nash is a cool name, different, but cool." I say, obviously flirting with him now.

"Hazel is a different, but pretty name." He says flirting back.

He rubs the back of his neck and looks up. "Well, I have to go now. Maybe we could hang out sometime?" he says.

"Totally." I say realizing that I just said totally.

"Oh yeah, tomorrow night is a neighborhood cookout, to welcome your family to the neighborhood. It's at our house in the backyard." He says, kindly.

"I can't wait!" I say, meaning it.

"Ok, well I'll see you later. Oh and I live next door, to the right when you walk out of your front door. Just in case you need me."

"Thanks. Bye." I say as he walks down the hallway and out the front door.

I guess moving does have it's perks.

"Hey Hazel. Who was that?" Kaleb asks, walking down the hallway and into the kitchen.

"A nice guy named nash who lives next door." I say dreamily.

My brother grabs my shoulder and I turn around. "Hazel, you have to be careful around these California guys. They're pretty persuasive and usually, everyone they date ends up with a broken heart."

"Whatever." I say rolling my eyes. "besides, we just met him and his family is having a cookout to welcome us to the neighborhood. Plus, the whole neighborhood is coming, so maybe both of us could make some new friends."

"I guess you're right, just be careful."

"Ok, well be careful around the California girls. I hear they're undeniable." I say joking around with him using the Katy Perry song, California girls.

"Whatever." he says seriously, but I can see in his eyes he wants to laugh.

He grabs a coke from the practically empty fridge and goes back upstairs.

So far, this moving thing hasn't been that hard. Now all I have to do is meet some nice girls and make them my friends. Luckily, there is a cookout tomorrow. A perfect friend-making opportunity. I can't wait! well maybe I can wait. Who knows? maybe ill just wait until school starts.
