Chapter 14

I came back home and sat on my sofa. The only thing that was going through my mind was Steve's strange behavior. Like was he really what he seemed to be? Was he really different from those other celebs out there? Or he was just another fish in the ocean.
Well, may be in a meeting or two I will be able to know him better. Maybe I judged him wrong,and so I would give it a go.
The next day I woke up to my phone ringing. It was Jake. I answered.
"Morning." He said as I recieved the call.
"Good Morning."
"Still sleeping?"
"Yeah."
"Well, Get up. I'm coming to your place in 10 minutes."
"Oh, OK."
He hung up.
I got up, brushed my teeth, washed my face and was going to the kitchen to prepare tea for myself when my door bell rang.
I knew it was Jake, so I unlocked the door and he came in.
"I'm preparing tea, would you like to have some?"
"Well, I got breakfast for both of us." He said raising the packets in his hand.
"OhK." I grinned.
We sat down on the sofa. He had brought cheeze sandwiches and cold coffee.
"So start. How was it?" He asked me taking a bite of the sandwich.
"Ok, so it was quite good. It was fun. We had a conversation about a number of things. We discussed a lot of things about him about me and yeah that's all." I decided not to tell him about his boastful behavior as I was myself unsure about it. Though it was dufficult to hide it from Jake because he was excellent at reading my face.
"Sure Ritz? That's all? Nothing more?"
"Yeah." I took a deep breath at gave him a smile.
And again the change of expression on his face. He was again lost somewhere. Then he closed his eyes for a second or so and then spoke.
"Good. Amazing rather. What about the furthur meetings?"
"I dont know. He never spoke about it. I'm sure he will ask me if he wants to, you know." I shrugged.
"Hmm, let's see then." He said.
Once we finished with our breakfast Jake said that he had some important work to do and so he left.
I decided that next day while at work I will tell Alex, Sophie and Anne about Steve.

At the hotel the next day, Jess was back. Everyone was standing together at the reception.
"Jess!" I hugged her.
"Hey babe." She said.
She placed her hand on my shoulder. "You are in trouble, Ritz."
"What? I didn't get you."
She looked at the rest of them. Alex, Sophie and Anne were all looking at me. I could tell they were mad at me, but why? I did not do anything.
"G-Guys, why are you looking at me that way?" I stammered because I knew that time wasn't good for me. "Jess?" I lookedat her.
She shrugged. And it finally clicked me why they reacted that way.
I looked at Jess, "You told them?"
"I just asked them, about the two of you, I never knew that they had no information about it." She clarified.
I took a deep breath and then spoke.
"Look, I was about to tell you guys about it today, believe me, I'm not lying."
"We don't want any clarification Ritz, just tell us what's going on." Anne said.
"Ok, umm..the night we met Steve in the pub, the next morning he started following me on Instagram, then I texted him and he replied, we had a small conversation and then he asked me out and I said Yes." I paused to watch them react but they were still numb, so I continued, "And this Saturday we went out, that's it there is nothing more. I'm sorry guys, but I swear I was about to tell you about this."
All of them suddenly burst out into laughter. And I was standing over there like What the fuck?
"Look at your face, Ritz. You're freaking out." Alex said laughing.
And I started laughing too, and it was then I realized Jake wasn't there.
"Where's Jake?" I asked the rest.
"We don't know. On leave may be." Sophie said.
"First day of the week?" I asked.
Everybody shrugged.
We all went to our department and got engaged in work. In the evening everbody planned to go to Jake's place. But I denied, because I knew it was again some excuse for leave and I just couldn't take the fact that there was something inside him that he was keeping from everyone, though he wanted to say it, but there was stopping him, killing him inside and I couldn't help him with it and so I didn't want to see him burn with it, hence I decided not to go.
When I reached home, I took a shower, changed and went to the kitchen to get something to eat as I was starving. I opened the fridge to see if I could get something as I was not willing to cook. I heard my phone. I went to the living room take it. It was Sophie.
"Hello?"
"Ritz! Where are you?"
"Home."
"Hurry up, come at Jake's."
"What? Is everything alright?" I panicked.
"Well you come here and figure it out yourself."
"OK, I'll be there as soon as possible."
She hung up.
