EXT. THE SWIRLY GO ROUND – LATER
Danny stands at the counter of the Swirly truck. Caleb enters in all black. He's wearing a beret adorned with mini film strips and holding a megaphone.
CALEB
(megaphone) Clear the set, people.
He leans against the window.
CALEB (CONT'D)
Danny. Just the guy I was looking for. You're on in...
He checks his watch.
CALEB (CONT'D)
Now. Let's go.
DANNY
Is this part of the training? Because I don't see how dressing up like a French burglar ties into the whole ice cream deal.
CALEB
You said acting is the only thing you're good at. Maybe the best way for you to be good at this job is by pretending to be an ice cream maker.
DANNY
I don't even have a character. What's my motivation? What are my lines?
Caleb pulls out a short script and hands it to him.
CALEB
You're name's Bernard. A high school kid who works at an ice cream truck to support his family of eight.
Danny flips through the script.
DANNY
Wow. You've really got the format down—
CALEB
(in megaphone) Actors to the set!
Caleb enters the truck and moves to the machine.
CALEB
This monstrous machine is standing in the way of providing delicious dessert for your poor, starving siblings. You must defeat it—Without actually breaking anything. Otherwise, it's coming out of your paycheck, which isn't much to being with. And action.
Danny closes his eyes and breathes. He reopens his eyes. He is now Bernard. He throws down his script and faces the ice cream machine.
DANNY
It's me and you. Man versus Machine. I will have your sugary sweetness if it's the last thing I ever eat!
He snatches a cone and tousles with the lever. He pushes the lever down and ice cream swirls onto the cone. He raises the cone in the air.
DANNY
Victory is served!
INT. SWIRLY GO ROUND - MOMENTS LATER
Danny crouches so that his eyes are level with the sundae on the counter. A bottle of chocolate syrup sits beside it. Caleb crouches next to him.
CALEB
