(Grace POV)
"David...Baby, can you hear me?", I lean over the bed where David lies, holding onto his face, warm to the touch.
It's been just a few moments since David showed a sign that he was about to wake up, but he didn't. I was so hopeful that he was finally going to fall out of his slumber and wrap me in his arms. I was hopeful that I was going to hear his voice again, telling me that everything is going to be okay.
Emma, standing on the other side of the bed with the earpieces of a stethoscope in both of her ears, presses the metal end on David's bare chest, trying to hear his heartbeat. While she does that, her unused gloved hand gently opens David's left eye and she gives off a surprised gasp, then curses.
"What? What's wrong?", I ask Emma just before the machine David is hooked up to starts beeping rapidly, piercing my eardrums and sending chills throughout my entire body.
"He's going into shock!", Emma tells me, tossing the stethoscope aside, "His heart is giving out. I'm going to try to stabilize him."
My breathing starts to pick up out of sheer panic as I tightly grip David's hand like I'm never letting go.
"David, wake up!", I plead to the unconscious teenager on the bed as the heart monitor next to him continues to beeps repeatedly, depicting David's heart rate spiraling out of control.
My entire body begins to tremble in terror, grasping my boyfriend's hand.
Emma runs over to the other side of the room and yanks open a drawer, taking out a small vial of a clear liquid along with a syringe, filling the syringe with whatever's in the vial. She then runs back to David's bedside, finds a tube attached to the skin near David's elbow and sticks the syringe in it, pushing the liquid inside which travels up the tube into David's bloodstream.
Emma steps back, the both of us waiting a few moments for the drug to take effect as the machine next to David doesn't stop beeping.
Emma quickly peels the blanket off of David's torso and places both hands on his chest, beginning chest compressions and knowing that the substance she gave David was not working. Emma's hands press down and up in a repeated motion, trying to get David's heart rate under control. After a few seconds, Emma then leans down, pinches David's nose, and breathes into his mouth several times. Immediately after that, she goes back to chest compressions, desperately trying to save David.
I collapse to my knees as I hold David's hand for dear life, the electronic machine loudly beeping into my ear. Tears begin to form at the corners of my eyes, then slowly running down my cheeks.
"David!...P-please wake up", I plead loudly while sobbing, "Please...I-I don't want to lose you...Please..."
My heart instantly drops to my stomach when I hear the machines begin to emit a solid beep.
Flatline.
Both Emma and I freeze in place, looking at David as he lays there, not moving.
"David?...", I whisper, my eyes blinded by tears.
I jump up and hold onto David's face, still warm to my shakey touch. His eyes fail to open, killing whatever hope I had left.
"David! Wake up! Please, just wake up! David!"
