Freedom Day had been an exciting event for Poe. He considered himself a well-traveled man, but he realized he wasn't even close to as cultured as he thought. Theed was beautiful, but it did not beat getting to visit Otoh Gunga. It wasn't often that someone got to visit an underwater city and Poe loved every minute of it. The Queen had been busy with Boss Jahto and their Councils for most of the celebration, so for the most part, he was on his own. Though, she did make an effort to at least talk to him and try to take part in the festivities. Unfortunately, Poe didn't exactly have the patience for that. He realized that this was perhaps one of the last times he would be able to enjoy himself thoroughly, so he took no chances. He definitely drank more than he should have, which resulted in his current condition; a pounding headache and no memory of how he got back to the Palace.
"BB-8... Shut up... Please, buddy?"
The droid had been beeping and whirring, trying to wake him up. Despite Poe's attempts, he continued, even going as far as to bump into Poe's bed. The pilot groaned and sat up, rubbing his head, "Alright. I'm up. What is it?"
BB-8 began to play a transmission from Leia.
"Poe, I swear... If you don't get up and start getting ready..."
"General! I was just getting up! What do you need?"
"First of all, I need you to tell me why you're up so late. Then, I need you to tell me what happened last night. Did you say a proper goodbye to the Queen?"
Poe sighed, running a hand through his messy hair, "I'm up late because I was out late. As for Queen Lyra, she was busy the entire night with the Gungans and running the thing. I figured I would say goodbye to her today and then head back to the base."
Leia smiled fondly, "All these years, I had never pegged her for a politician... But from what you have told me and from what I've heard, it seems she has a knack for it. When she was a little girl, she used to want to be a Mandalorian bounty hunter."
Poe laughed out loud, "For some reason, I can picture her wanting that. Why?"
"Anything that would take her far away from her father and allow her to see the Galaxy. Then, she completely changed her tune when she went to train with Luke. She desperately wanted to become a Jedi and trained very hard."
"She still does. Speaking of her father... There are rumors about him being a First Order sympathizer."
"Yes... These rumors are disturbing, especially because he worked so diligently on behalf of the Republic. However, it could also be an attempt to smear the Queen; there are factions trying to weaken her power, even though it's her last year in office. There are people trying to create discord."
