Well, this day marks my first employment. Man, I can't believe what I'm doing. But I guess I can live with this until I get my own house. I have no dreams anymore. I just want to survive. Anyway, I took a shower and prepared myself for today's task. I drove off to the diner. Everyone was cleaning so I guess I have to help. There are six employees, three girls and three guys, including me. Two of the girls are waitresses and third girl is the cashier. While the men work in the kitchen. I am the only young looking guy in here. Gary walked in.

"Good morning Gary" I say.

"Good morning Caleb. Good luck on you first day" He replies.

He walked into his office. I really want to socialize with the other employees but they are busy at the moment. I mopped the floor on the second level of the building. I went down and a customer came in. I should be the one to take this customer's order. I took my order pad and proceed to walk to the customer.

"What can I get you this fine morning Ma'am?" I ask.

I think she didn't hear me because she had her earphones on.

"Excuse me miss. Are you ready to order?"

She glares at me. To be honest I don't think it was a negative reaction. I think she was just repulsed by the bruises on my face.

"Where did they dig you up?" She asks.

I can't answer that question without being sarcastic but I need to be in my reverential deportment.

"So, can I take your order?" I ask again.

"Yeah, I'll have the usual" She replies.

She opens her laptop and plugged earphones unto it.

"Miss excuse me, "the usual" is not on the menu"

She laughed. Thank God, she's not mad at me.

"Caramel macchiato and waffles with whipped cream" She replies.

"Okay, I'll be back with your coffee"

I pinned her order in the kitchen. I went to back in the counter to get her coffee. It was kinda amusing that she also likes caramel macchiato.

"You may be wondering about her. Yeah, she usually have breakfast here" My co-worker says.

"Hey, I didn't get your name"

"Hazel" She replies.

"Mary" The cashier says.

"Elizabeth" The other waitress says.

"The guys in the kitchen are Raj and Ian" Hazel says.

"Well, it's nice to meet you all" I say.

I went back to serve the girl's coffee.

"Caramel macchiato"

"Hey, come sit next to me. I want you to listen to this song" She says.

"Uh, I'm at work" I reply, nervously.

"Come on, it will probably just three seconds"

"Okay"

She moved to give a space to sit in. She removed her earphones and gave it to me. I put them on, it was too loud. She adjusted the volume for me. The genre of the song is prolly synth-pop.

"Do you like it?" She asks.

"Uh, yes" I reply, nervously again.

"I'm Evelyn" She says as she gestures her hand for a handshake.

I shook her hands and said "Caleb"

The service bell rang. I stood up.

"I guess your waffles are ready. Imma go fetch it for you" I say.

"Oh. Please"

I took the waffles and gave it to her. She smiled at me. When she left, she tipped me and she also left a letter with her phone number that says "Call me".

At lunchtime there were a lot of customers. I got very busy serving and taking orders. I don't know why but I kinda enjoy this. I'm that type of person who don't usually do chores but I don't know now. Shift ends at 7 PM, I worked 13 hours. God, I'm tired. I went back to my motel room and just jumped on the bed. I reached in my pocket and I still have her phone number. I saved it on my contacts in case I lose her number. I still didn't turn off the airplane mode.

I stood up, put on my jacket and walked towards the bar across the street. I don't usually do this kind of stuff but here I am. When I entered, I can't believe what I'm seeing. It's full of hipsters. The Strokes are playing on their stereo. I was looking around as I walk to the bar.

"What can I get you Sir?"

I faced the bartender and it was the first customer I served.

"Caleb right?" She asks.

"Yeah. Uh, I forgot your name" I reply, nervously.

"Evelyn. So, what do you want?"

Well, I didn't really want to drink but damn it.

"JD double on the rocks" I say.

I just watched her pour me a drink. God, she's pretty. Maybe, she's older than me. Well, I guess she is.

"Here" She says.

"Thanks" I reply.

She's cleaning some of the glasses. I was just low-key staring at her the whole time. Maybe she likes me, I don't know. Why would she leave her number?

"So Caleb, where are you from?" She asks.

"Atlanta but I grew up here"

I took a sip. She continued cleaning the glass and then she started smiling.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" She asks.

Oh God. She noticed. How the fuck did she notice? Okay Caleb, play it cool. Don't flirt too much.

"I have a thing for brunette" I reply.

Really Caleb? Do you have to say that? Out of the things that you can possibly say, that's the one you've chosen?

"When are you free?" She asks.

Wow, I didn't expect that. Is she asking me out? Caleb, please don't say something dumb?

"I don't know yet. I just started today" I reply.

"Well, if you're free just give me a call. Let's hang out. You got my number right?" She asks.

"Yeah, I have it"

She smiled. You know this girl Evelyn is actually pretty cool. After I finished my drink, I left my payment. I gave back the tip that she gave me. I went back to my motel room and slept because I need to be early again tomorrow.
