I don't know really why, but I slept at grandpa's house last night. Tony went home, just so that the house won't feel "human-less". I don't know if that is even a word but I feel stupid for saying it. Anyway, typically Mom happened last night. Of course she freaked when she heard that grandma died. Well, I mean, you know. It's unusual that somebody freaks out when she or he heard that her Mom died, because usually the anticipated feedback will be melancholy or sorrow.
I stood up from the couch, stretched my arms and went home. I took a shower and drove off to work. I'm late, for the first time. Evelyn hasn't been around in here for three straight days. Not that I miss her or anything but Mary said she always have breakfast in here. After serving, I don't know many customers now, Mom came and she was a bit furious.
"Caleb!" She shouts, getting the attention of everyone in the diner.
I guess Mr. Shultz saw her come in because he was already out of his office.
"Good morning Mrs. Adamson, if you want to talk with Caleb please come to my office"
Mom took my hand and she dragged me into my boss' office. Mr. Shultz sat on his chair and Mom sat on the chair in front of him. I was just standing there like an idiot.
"I want you to hire him" Mom says with a negative tone.
"Mrs. Adamson. I can't really do that" Mr. Shultz replies.
Mom crossed her arms and language of her eyebrows tells that she's very furious. The last time I saw Mom like this is when I got a B+ in my report card.
"What do you mean you can't do that!?" Mom shouts.
"Well Emily, your son is already 18 years old" He replies.
"Yes, he's my son and I still can decide things for him because he lives in my house" Mom retorts.
Wow, she really is mad. But technically I don't live in Mom's house anymore, so there's that. I guess Mr. Shultz will say that.
"Is he? Does he still live in your house?" Mr. Shultz says as he raise his left eyebrow.
Well, I guess I have to do the right thing.
"Mr. Shultz. It's okay, you can fire me" I say.
"Are you sure Caleb?" He asks.
"Yes" I reply.
So, things went well after that. Mom got calm and we left the diner. Mary, Elizabeth, Hazel hugged me. I mean, we all had a few great moments together. I will kinda miss working in my favorite diner.
We got in Mom's car and when I thought she's not mad anymore, she started to nag. My ears were inaudible again. Well, I have some realizations. My ears get inaudible if someone is saying bad things. Mom was fucking cursing, I didn't know that she have the ability to do that. My ears are starting to her again and she was just repeating the same question all over again.
"What the fuck were you fucking thinking!?" She shouts.
"Why do you even care?" I ask, calmly.
She waved her arms and asks "I'm your mother and I'm responsible for you no matter what!"
"Three months after Dad died, Mason happened. So, tell that bullshit to me"
"So, is this still about Mason? Really? Mason and I are over! Remember?" She shouts.
"Well, good to hear that again"
