"What?" Katlyn wondered if he heard him right.
We can't be lost...I need to find and rescue my father. I knew this kid would be trouble. Why did I ever trust him?
Jason paused from looking at the map. "No, no, it should be here. The rebel base on the planet Cralis."
Saavni looked at them. "What? You can't see it? The planet is right there." She pointed towards the blackness.
Jason rolled his eyes and went back to his map scratching his head in great confusion.
Katlyn frowned. "There's no planet...." She suddenly got an idea. "Wait...Saavni...is that part of your powers? You can see things that are camouflaged!" She felt a surge of pride that she had solved the situation.
Saavni blinked her large, now black eyes.
Woah that's kinda creepy...I guess she can change her eyes to see things that no one else can. That's really incredible.
"It's a dark red planet with black rings. It looks like red lightning is flickering around it." Saavni said.
Jason looked at Katlyn. "Can she really see a planet there?"
   Katlyn nodded, looking at Saavni.
"Well than, maybe we'll see it if I pull closer." He put his map away and drove forward. Katlyn sat in the co-pilot seat as Saavni hung on to a handle near the ceiling. Sure enough, they were pulled into the planet's atmosphere and it revealed itself for a moment.
As quick as they saw it, it was gone as they drove through the dark atmosphere and they saw a forest on the surface.
"Can you go to the trees?" Katlyn pointed. She didn't want to be seen by the rebels and still debated with herself whether she should tell them the truth.
Jason landed the Scout's Revenge in a small clearing, knocking some trees down in the process. Katlyn clenched her teeth hoping the rebels didn't notice them, wherever they were.
Jason smiled and dusted off his hands in satisfaction. "There. Why did you want to come to the rebel base anyway?"
Eyes widened, she stood up from the co-pilot seat and put on her backpack. She didn't know how to answer his question but decided to tell him the truth.
"Well, I..."
She changed her mind.
"It doesn't matter." Katlyn headed out of the ship, trying to remember the exit. She was aware of Saavni and Jason staring after her.
She walked around the ship, and remembered seeing a handle somewhere. Katlyn turned a corner and spotted it. She lifted her hand to pull the handle but heard footsteps. She turned to see Saavni and Jason following.
Katlyn smiled slightly and pulled the handle, causing the door to fall back creating a ramp for them. She walked down the ramp, feeling a cool breeze and a slight drizzle.
She looked up and noticed it was getting dark. Katlyn sighed and carried on. "Which way to the rebel base?"
"They live in a mountain nearby. There's also many civilians that live here known as the Tanyins." Jason replied.
"Hmm" Katlyn grunted. "Are they nice?"
"Sure. Well, I don't know much about them so maybe best to treat them with respect." Jason pointed in the left direction. "The mountain is that way. I think."
Katlyn nodded, feeling eager to see her father. Together the three friends trudged through the damp forest in silence. Mud stuck to her boots as she tried to avoid wet parts of the ground.
Jason looked up. "So why are you going? I need to know so I can help you. Or....I could just leave you here but I need to be sure you don't need a ride back to Yobi. Or whatnot. What is such a secret?" He seemed unsure yet determined.
Katlyn sighed yet again. Why was it so difficult to tell them?
"Ok. My father was taken by the rebels and I need to rescue him." She scanned Jason for a sign of the rebel clothes or symbol. Maybe the blaster in his belt was a rebel weapon?
All this time she hadn't even noticed he was carrying a weapon. Maybe he was hiding it or just brought it with him? Is he against the rebels or for them?
Questions swam in her head and noticed Jason staring at her. "What?"
Jason was frowning. "I said why couldn't you trust us? I could help."
"Well....I wasn't sure if you were...." She held her breath hoping she didn't make a mistake.
"A rebel?" He said finishing her question. "No. I'm a smuggler."
Katlyn wondered if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
She walked through the forest in the direction to the mountain. " You don't have to come. I'll be back soon, so....be ready to take off once I get back. "
If I go back.
She didn't want to take a chance of them messing up her mission.
Is that the only reason you don't want them to come with you....? A voice rang in her mind but she shoved the thought aside.
Katlyn did care about her new friends, although she wasn't sure she should entirely trust them.
Are they even your friends..
Jason shook his head. "We're coming with you. If Saavni is good at camouflage as you say, then she can help to find your father. And I, Katlyn, have a blaster." He pulled out his weapon ready to shoot anyone who stands in their way.
Katlyn headed towards the mountain quickly. She wanted to hurry and find her father while there was still light. Once it gets dark, it'll be hard to see.
There was a cave built in the mountain and she could see rebel x-wings outside. Mountains nearby also had caves in it, but the main one was four times larger.
He must be in a rebel prison...if they hadn't killed him...
Her breath stuck in her throat as she crouched behind a bush. She wondered how she would sneak in. Katlyn heard rustling behind and jumped. She looked up to see Jason and Saavni.
She sighed and gave them a glare.
"What are you doing in the bush?" Saavni asked.
"Uh hiding." She whispered urging them to sit down.
Jason looked around, analyzing everything.
"We could wait until night and wait until there are less rebels. Then attack them and wear their clothes as a disguise." He crosses his arms looking proud.
"No." Katlyn said looking at the entrance.
"Well what do you think?"
She paused for a moment then answered. "You and Saavni could distract the guards and I'll sneak past them. Once I'm in, I'll find the prison eventually and free my father, we'll fight our way out. Y'all can make sure that our path is clear and help us escape."
Jason crossed his arms. "That's a stupid plan. We're all going."
"It's my problem and I'm solving it." Katlyn replied.
I just don't want them to be hurt because of me...
"Why can't we come with you? I can easily locate the prison from inside. Not from out here. We're doing my plan." Jason exclaimed.
"No ok."
"Why not?" He asked a bit harshly.
Katlyn bit her lip not sure how to respond.
"I don't want y'all to get in my way..." She quickly regretted speaking. She closed her mouth and glanced at Jason.
"Well if that's how it is." Jason frowned and stood up. "Have fun rescuing your father on your own!"
"Who's there!?" A rebel shouted.
Katlyn froze and clenched her teeth hoping he wouldn't see them.
Saavni was admiring her jewelry as she slipped an emerald necklace on her.
Jason sat down quickly, the three of them hiding behind the bush, careful not to make any noise.
During the several more moments of being quiet, Katlyn was thinking of her previous argument.
What he says makes sense but what if they get captured? It'll be all my fault.
She realized she would have to go with Jason's plan. It was the only way she would be able to be reunited with her father.
It grew darker. A crescent moon lit the two rebels guarding the entrance.
"Jason....let's do your plan." She whispered.
   "Really? Um great."
She couldn't quite see his face in the dark but she was sure he was smiling.
Jason stood up with his blaster in his hand.
"No don't shoot. The others might here it." Katlyn said.
"This one's quiet. Trust me." He aimed at one of the rebel's heads and was about to shoot.
Both rebels fell to the ground.
"What the hell?" Katlyn stood up confused.
   "Did you pull the trigger?"
Jason looked shocked in the moonlight. "Uh...no."
Saavni suddenly appeared before them and they both screamed.
"Your welcome." The shapeshifter said proudly.
Katlyn had her hand on her chest, her heart beating fast. "What did you do?"
"I snapped their necks. I camouflaged."
"Oh goodie..." Jason replied as he tried not to look alarmed. Katlyn figured he was embarrassed that Saavni had scared them.
Katlyn walked over to one of the fallen rebels and took a jacket with the rebel symbol on it. She slipped it over her thin dark blue jacket and grabbed a blaster from its belt.
Jason put on the other rebel jacket and handed the blaster to Saavni. "Just in case."
They headed inside with Jason in the lead. Katlyn took a deep breath. Soon she would free her father and everything would be ok again.
   Or so she thought.
