so I don't know if any other black/POC theatre kids feel this but some of my dream roles are originally played by white actors and I feel that sometimes I can't play them. Not because I can't play the roles acting wise or vocally (which is more important) but because I am a POC. I feel that whoever is casting the show will look past the fact that I can sing the part/act the part. But they just look at my color and don't see me as the part. Idk if this makes sense. It sucks because one of my dream roles for example is Ariel from the little mermaid. I feel like I will never play her because in the movie she's white and only has been played by white people and some rare occasions Asians (which is amazing bc we need more Asian rep.) It just sucks because I would love to play her but I can never see myself playing her. Which IS EXACTLY WHY WE NEED MORE REPRESENTATION ON STAGE!!!!
