The day was bright and everything seemed perfect.  Emma packed her books on the bed and searched for her purse.
She was running late but she had to find her purse.  She had her keys in the purse and there was no way she was stepping out without her purse and keys.
She looked under the bed and saw the purse on the floor. She took it and picked her books and ran outside.

"Emma", she turned on hearing her name and there was Gerald,  smiling and running in her direction. She smiled back.
"Wow, you're walking today", Gerald said still smiling.
"I thought you were going to fall so I started running when I saw you" he finished and burst into laughter.
Emma laughed and covered her face with her books.
"So where are you going?" Gerald asked and put his hands in his back pocket.
"To class" Emma replied with a smile.
"Let me help you with the books" Gerald said and before she could protest the books were with Gerald.
"Thanks" Emma said.
"You really look good when you smile" Gerald said breaking the comfortable silence.
Emma blushed.
"Thanks" she said politely.
"I didn't know you were in this class" Gerald said.
"I also didn't know you were in this class" Emma said stretching her hands for her books.
Gerald gave it back and she thanked him.
They took the seats available in the front row.
"I hate front seats" Gerald whispered into Emma ear.
"Me too, it kinda sucks" Emma said frowning.
The lecturer caught her whispering into Gerald's ear and jokingly asked if they were romancing in his class.
The students burst into laughter.
Emma and Gerald looked at each other and joined in the laughter.

He escorted her to her hostel after lectures.
"I'll call you when I get to my hostel" he said and descended the stairs.
Emma remembered they had not exchanged contacts.

                         *****
She heard her phone ring and ran to answer the call. It was an unknown number. She hesitated before answering.
"Hello Emma" the caller said.
"Hi" Emma responded, relieved and disappointed it was not Leo.
She was relieved because she wouldn't have known what to say.
Disappointed because a part of her still wanted Leo back.
"Are you there? " the caller asked calmly.
"Yes, yes" I'm still on the line.
"Please what's your name and where are you calling from? " she asked politely. She was always polite on phone.
"It's Gerald" the person at the other end whispered.
"Oh hi" Emma said.
"Hey, how did you get my contact?" Emma asked surprised.
"Remember when you wrote your number on the board? " Gerald asked calmly.
"Oh yeah, I do" Emma said smiling.
"Osei told me to write it down and I did" Gerald said and walked to the window.
"So you've had my contact for two months and you never called.
"Oh sorry" Gerald said and smiled to himself.
"Never mind" Emma said.
"How are you doing?" Gerald asked softly.
"I'm better" she replied.
"You know I kept wondering how you'd get to me when you left" Emma said feigning annoying.
"Oh I'm sorry" Gerald said.
"It's fine" Emma said.
"So I'll call you later" Gerald said and picked a piece of paper from the study table and started to doodle.
"Ok" Emma replied and hang up.
"What's happening to me? " Gerald asked himself  as he stared at the phone.
He started pacing the floor as if that was going to give him answers to his questions.
He shrugged and turned on the TV.
