About midday Miss Peregrine came out with the rest of the children who were not already outside, I was once again settled under the tree it looming over me shadowing me from the scorch of the blazing sun.
We sat outside for a while the other children playing happily amongst themselves and grumpy, sorry Enoch, even made a brief appearance sitting under the tree beside me. This shocked me hugely but from what I am told and what I saw the previous day this seems to be a regular spot for him to come and fiddle with what seems to be clay?
Thinking it best not to ask I stay silent and soon the rest of the children including Miss Peregrine join us under the shade of the towering tree that belongs to the beautifully tended garden that Fiona is so proud of- it is stunning from the luscious flowers to the humble vegetable patch that provides many of the children's meals.
Looking towards the children I smile at the young girls playing make-believe and the twins who seem to be fighting over a well used teddy bear. I turn around and look off towards the beach enjoying the 1940's summer heat that we rarely see in Britain nowadays, only to see a large lanky creature slinking forward from the sandy shore. I jump forward as it approaches and blink my eyes rapidly, thinking my mind to be deceiving me.
It isn't.
