Christina met Kendall's eyes as soon as he walked in the bedroom, just after lowly closing the balcony door. His green eyes watered as he saw her sitting on the bed, remembering how much pain she had gone through that night.
Her arms were propped against the bed as she kept her eyes on the boy. Part of her wanted to run to him and comfort him but the other part of her waited patiently for him to speak.
"Chris," His voice trembled. He slowly kneeled down in front of her as he studied her face.
"Just hug me." She broke into tears as they both simultaneously stood up and wrapped their arms around each other. Kendall's arm came around her waist while his hand came up to the back of her head, letting her nuzzle his neck. Christina's arms circled his waist as she pulled him closer.
"I'm sorry." He murmured in her ear. "I'm sorry you're having the worst birthday. I'm sorry I was too stupid to realize your feelings towards me."
"You're sorry?" She sniffed. "I just ruined our friendship and you're sorry?" Kendall pulled away from her as he held her at arms length.
"I was apologizing for the shit you had to go through when you where here. Heather and the incident that happened a few nights ago. You didn't ruin our friendship. What makes you think that?"
"I knew you were going to look at me differently after you knew. That's why I kept it away from you, I wanted to be the same Christina I was when we met at school. I wanted you to trust me."
"I do trust you, I trust you more than my own brothers." He pulled her close to him and pressed his forehead against hers. "And I do look at you different, I admit. But it's a good different. I used to picture happiness as you and me having a nice long talk. Now, I picture happiness as holding you in my arms and pressing my lips against yours." Kendall whispered before taking a deep breath. It was the first time in months he said something that was true and it felt good.
"You can't feel like this." Christina pulled away and looked into his eyes. Just as his eyes focused back on her, he saw a dark object in the hallway a few feet away. As soon as his eyes made out the object he jumped back.
"No. You're not leaving for another few days." He shifted his eyes from the suitcase back to her. Christina avoided making eye contact.
"I hope to get my flight moved up, and if I can't go home earlier, I'll just go to an hotel." She shrugged, still avoiding eye contact.
"Well I am glad you packed up." Kendall let go of her as he walked towards the hallway. Christina took in a deep breath. It went easier than she thought it was, she was ready to go home. She turned around to see Kendall but only saw him lock the door and place the suitcase by the wall. "We'll be sharing rooms for the rest of the week."
"W-What?" Christina's heart sped up.
"I can feel like this and you can't stop me." Kendall answered her previous question. "I broke up with Heather and I am free. I am free from her and I am free from lies." He walked towards Christina.
"So you're not letting me go?" Christina took a few steps back.
"No." Kendall answered. Christina sat back down on the bed and covered her face with her hands. Kendall reached the edge of his bed, where Christina was, and pulled her hands away from her. "You feel the same way I feel about you. Don't lie to me. So what's the next step?" Kendall hinted.
"I'm going to be in New York for a few more years, Kendall. And by the end of that time I need to be in Florida with my parents."
"I'll go visit you up there," Kendall kneeled down in front of her. "And you can stay here your entire summer. Think about it." His hand caressed her face as he placed a strand of her hair behind her ear.
