Two weeks into junior year of high school and I was already tired of all the kids. That Tuesday seemed like all the rest at first, I was sitting at my desk towards the back of the room just scrawling some sloppy doodles into my spiral notebook when I realized the teacher was later to class than usual. Our math teacher wasn't the best but the law states that if the teacher is not in the classroom by fifteen minutes after the bell has rung then the students don't have to stay in the class, and I was just looking for an excuse to escape from the noisy kids. I looked up at the clock in the front of the room and noticed it had only been six minutes. I looked down at the half covered page before me and began to make a guide to follow for this year. If you're going to survive any year of high school you always need to make a plan and stick with it.
Halfway through creating my list the teacher came rushing through the door. I looked up at the clock, there were only two minutes until we could've left, darn! All eyes were on the teacher since he practically sprinted in here, we were all curious as to why he was late. We let him catch his breath so we could hear his explanation. When he finally caught his breath he looked up at us and said "Thought I wouldn't make it, did you? punks!" No one really cared much at this statement because he has spoken worse to us.
We all wondered the same thing, why was he so late? No one spoke for a solid ten seconds, then a quiet girl in the front raised her hand. "Sir, why were you so late to class?" He looked up at us as if coming out of a daze. "Oh yeah, that's right, I forgot. Poor thing waiting out there. Class we have a new student." Upon hearing this the class erupted with the humming of our whispers. Our high school never really got new kids because we were a relatively small community on the outskirts of a big city, so the only way we could have a new student would be... if they were a transfer. But who in their right mind would want to transfer here? Most kids were forced to transfer because of misconduct in a school in the city, but most of us attending this school just come here because we live in the community.
Our teacher hushed us and went to open the door. "Ms. Song, you can come in now." Slowly, as if scared, a girl walked through the door. She was wearing a black skirt with a blue top and boots. And she was cute.
