CHAPTER FOUR: hungry eyes

-

it had been a few weeks since finn and millie's meeting at the park; both of them in a better mood than they had both been in years.

it was light hearted, with playful giggles and jabs that made them act like they were both kids again; overwhelmingly filled with affection that had been suppressed.

finn smiles thinking of all the new memories yet too come, although now it was a little nervous as he stared up at the intimidating building in the fading orange sunlight.

caleb nudges him with his shoulder, face twisting in way he couldn't tell he was feeling. "your girl works here? it's um—it could use some work." he says, gesturing to the way the paint on the outside was cracking and chipping. "let's hope that paint is at least semi new because i'm not trying to get lead poisoning wolfhard."

finn rolls his eyes, huffing at his friend is mild frustration. "so it's a little run down? you said you wanted to know if she had any hot friends. you wanna find out don't you?"

his friend smirks lightly now, giving him a teasing almost giddy grin "yeah, yeah shut up." and the black skinned boy slaps a heavy palm on top of his skinny framed shoulder with a chuckle, that has finn as well hitting him back in retaliation.

millie would always be his best friend, but he knows deep down that caleb comes pretty close to that concept as well. their friendship always just as teasing and playful.

the pair walk into the building, slipping in quietly and a soft haze of smoke lingers around them, to which he knows the smell will as well to his clothes. there's also a gently lighting of neon beer signs that gives off a red and bluish color. it's somehow comforting.

"where they at?" caleb questions, taking in the cherry red booths and bar tables.

finn shrugs. "not sure. millie said she gets off at seven cause she had a early shift, so i guess she's probably in the back or something, getting the last of everything together," he purposes sitting down on one of the stools, leaning an elbow and head on the shiny brown wood.

he closes his eyes tiredly, they had been starting to hurt after a seemingly endless day at the office, staring continuously at graphs and charts over their stupid numbers.

he's just happy they'd finally been able to get together and hang out again. it's all that's been on his mind really.

just her.

it's stupid probably; the way his heart speeds up at the thought of millie, but his body can't help it, and honestly finn can't find a single bone in his being to even feel sorry about it. that's why when she'd called him up and offered to go out for a few drinks with her friend finn clambered at the offer, even if it wasn't going to be alone like usual he'd thought caleb would also like the added bonus—in reality finn just didn't wanna third wheel.

fours a group anyways.

millie spots the floppy haired boy's head smack against the table and bites her lip in laughter. she looks over to sadie who she catches staring animatedly at caleb, her mouth slightly open a bit in what millie can only assume is awe, and skin flushing nervously.
