CHAPTER FIVE: i got everything that you want! like a heart so true for you!

-

millie has three specific memories that she can remember from the time before she left.

the first: is of her father.

it's an old memory that lingers faintly in the back of her mind at times; almost like it is sitting under water somewhere. his hands are on both of her shoulders and he's smiling down at her (faintly millie can still feel the gaps between her teeth from where one had fallen) as she laughs.

it's not exactly an overwhelming kind of thing to remember of him, but it's one of the only and last ones she can muster of him.

it's kind of hazy and blurry really.

millie can't remember how his face looks, but she knows his eyes were soft and brown like a teddy bear, and how he had pressed a fleeting kiss to her forehead.

how it felt for him to love her. on some days still she envy's what she once had.

the second: is of her mother dying.

as much as she wants to block it out, some of it likes to slip through into her nightmares every once in awhile.

the woman's on the floor for some reason, and her hands are shaking as they reach for her; face pale and clenched through shallow breaths. she's crying, but also somewhat calm in a strange way that had frightened the ten year old girl.

her mother breathes her name one last time, and then like a flame that had flickered away too soon, goes out; eyes rolling back as she turns limp.

everything after that, much like her mother becomes silent.

the third thing: she lastly remembers happens right before.

millie kisses her best friend and not even for the first time. it's rushed and she's not even entirely sure about what she's thinking, but the girl does it anyways.

it's not the whole memory though, it's only half of it actually, because the other half includes her step father practically tearing her away from his embrace minutes later as she screams and sobs.

but mostly she remembers the heartbreak of losing him.

millie doesn't think she'd ever be able to go through that again and she hopes she can keep that in mind this time around.

millie knows she won't survive that this time.

"what ya think about this one?"

they're both walking around in a local thrift store now though and that's the last thing on her mind.

especially, when finn smiles down at her in the playful smirking way he seemingly looks to own permanently around her, as harry belafontes' jump in the line plays in the background happily.

it's a picture perfect memory she'd rather stuff in instead of the others.

"hmm how about no?" she giggles throwing her head back. "you look like a thirty year old mom on her way to disneyland with her kids."
