CHAPTER ELEVEN: rain or shine you've stood by my side

-

the airline looses his luggage.

okay—so minor set back, finn tries to shrug off but his luck only gets worse when he seems to remember his phone was accidentally packed inside it.

but still—some how it doesn't seem to be as important as getting to millie's. sure it was expensive. probably the most expensive thing he owned—and that was saying a lot, but he could always buy another one (in a couple months probably) at the end of the day.

but not her.

and really that's all that it came down to didn't it?

it's raining still, because of course it is, when he walks outside the airport and it would be pitch black out if it weren't for the bright lights of cars and signs.

the water clings to his button down shirt and it seems to weigh him down uncomfortably, but finn can't find it in himself to do anything about it. his mind is too busy working at a million miles per hour; trying to come up with what to say when he finally comes face to face with millie again.

he's never done this type of thing before. because, really who has?

declaring undying love is something of only in the movies isn't it?

god—do i get her flowers? chocolate? do i go change clothes before?

finn shakes his head at that crazy thought; there's no time for those things anyways.

he's shaking anxiously in the back of the taxi when he hears someone finally say something to him in the first almost 24 hours. "you look like shit," the driver says dryly and finn can't help but let out a surprised chuckle, it weak but it's there.

"feel like it to. i...i'm going to go tell my best friend that i'm in love with her after all this time." he doesn't know why he admits that to this total stranger but somehow it's relaxing; knowing he's no real part of finn life, just passing bye in what could be one of the most important moments in his existence.

the man's eyebrows raise before smiling, or more like smirking at him in the rear view mirror. "what a real romeo you are aren't you?"

"if romeo was blind and stupid then yeah."

"he was stupid."

"semantics," finn waves.

it quiets after the man's chuckles and for a moment everything is calm. finn can breathe again and his hands tighten with anticipation that seems to strangle at him from the inside out. the sight of millie's apartments only make his hands shake further, and it's completely noticeable when he hands the man his money.
the guy merely takes it with another smirk and a thumbs up to him.

"you got this kid."

finn sure hopes he does.

he walks up the stairs and with a final push of urgency, knocks upon the wooden door.

he waits.

-

there's a thumping coming from somewhere and millie groans tossing the pillow over her head once more, but after a moment it starts up again.
