The student section was packed full of students in the stands. Derek and Spencer had arrived ahead of us to save seats in the third row. We were unfortunately in the same area as the rest of Quinns' friends. That mostly included loud, obnoxious jocks. He floated around talking to them and occasionally glancing my way. This was just too awkward for me to handle during the whole game.

Charlie was cheering her heart out from close to the top of the stands. She was with a group of girls in the same class as her. It made me happy to see that at least she was enjoying herself, and not as miserable as she had pretended to be while at home. We were losing, but Ollie was clearly the best player on the court. He had to carry the whole team. It was a one-man show, and unfortunately, it wasn't working out. The other team was just too good.

The buzzer rang, signaling the start of halftime. My favorite time: snack time!

"Ash, let's go get some snacks?"

"Okay!" She jumped down from the bleachers and headed towards the concessions with me.

"Charlie seems pretty happy cheering Ollie on. I'm glad that I won't have to keep a close eye on her as we keep settling in. Anders really isn't that bad. And I guess Indiana isn't as terrible as everyone says it is. The beauty is just in the people of this state," I speculated.

Ashley paused to think through what I said. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I've just never thought about it that way." Ash got her soda and candy and I got my soda and scalding hot, freshly made, loaded nachos. I could not wait to dig in. Boys need to take note: Food is the way into my heart. Forever and always.

As we started up the stairs back to the bleachers I noticed some of the jocks getting a little rowdy. Exactly why I hated these events. I had almost reached my seat when one of them, Trevor Pickett if remember correctly, stared at me straight in the eyes as I was about to pass them.

I noticed it too late to stop anything from happening. He stuck his foot out to trip me and placed his hands perfectly so that as I went down on the bleachers, my food went up; all over me and my clothes. The nacho cheese was still scalding hot on my arms and chest.

"Oh sorry Bri, I didn't see you there." He looked down at me as the student section laughed at the disaster otherwise known as myself. "Maybe if you got off your high horse yourself and weren't such an ass to Quinn, you wouldn't have fallen so... far." This earned some dramatic 'oooooohs' from the crowd and the cheerleaders on the court.

I couldn't deal with this. Not after I thought everything was going so well. Quinn was nowhere to be found as the jocks continued to throw petty insults at me while high-fiving Trevor. Ashley just stood there, dumbfounded and unsure of what to do. She started to look around for Quinn or any of our other friends to help. I got up and ran toward the gym exit, a few tears escaping and probably ruining the little makeup I had put on.

"Hey" I heard someone yell as I neared the school exit. I looked to my right and saw the girl who was speaking to me. She was gorgeous. Like stop-dead-in-my-tracks-why-is-this-girl-talking-to-me-omg-I-need-to-say-something-and-stop-staring-holy-freaking-shit gorgeous. "Are you alright?" She asked as we walked out of the school. "Some of the other cheerleaders were laughing, but I don't think what happened was funny at all," She said. I could tell that she meant it.

"I'm okay," I said. Really, I wasn't. I had just humiliated myself in front of the entire student section of my new school. Stupid freaking jocks. "I'm just going to try to catch a ride home or start walking home."

"No way are you walking! Come on I'll drive you home and help get you cleaned up." She smiled brightly at me with a beautiful smile. Wait what the hell... that's a weird thought for me.
