My mom heard us walking up the stairs. "Bri, is that you?" She yelled from the kitchen.
"Yeah, mom. We came home early." As we walked into the kitchen, my mom had her back to us, looking through the fridge for something.
"Who is we-" She stopped as she turned around and saw Camren standing in the entryway. "Oh! Hello!" My mom beamed, probably glad that I had finally brought some friends around. "Is this the Ashley that I've heard so much about?"
"No, this is Camren. Another friend from school. She gave me ride home from the game." I glanced over at Camren and grinned. She stood in the doorway looking slightly unsure of what to do.
"Well thank you very much for helping out Camren," my mom said sweetly.
"It was no problem, ma'am." She came into the kitchen and stood beside me, relaxing a little.
"Oh! Call me Daniela." My mom turned around and pulled some pizzas out of the oven. "You guys have perfect timing! I just finished making some pizza. Grab some plates Bri," She directed me. I grabbed three plates and set them on the counter as my mom cut the pizza and grabbed drinks. "Alrighty! Everything looks good. Camren, you're the guest so dig in first!"
"Okay thank you!" We all got a couple slices of pizza and took them to the living room.
"What kind of shows do you like to watch, Camren?" I asked as we sat by each other on the couch. She curled up on the couch with her feet under her and her food in her lap.
"I enjoy some sitcoms mostly. Shows like The Middle or Brooklyn Nine-Nine."
"OMG YAAAS! Mom, turn on the Nine-Nine, please!" She grinned and set it up on the flatscreen. We loved this show. I had seen every episode at least twice.
We spent the next hour watching the Nine-Nine and laughing. It was really nice to just chill out and hang with my mom and someone who was not my family. Camren seemed like she was enjoying herself. She barely knew me and yet was so nice and caring already. I felt such a strong feeling of... rightness, I guess, while being around her.
I eventually got up and went into the kitchen to clean up from dinner. I had just finished loading the dishwasher when I turned around to see Camren standing in the doorway. How long had she been there?
"It's getting kinda late," She said as she sat down at the counter. "I should probably head home. I left my stuff in your room though."
"Okay, let's grab it and get you out of here." She followed me back downstairs and started to pick up her cheesy towel from the floor. "Oh, I will wash that and give it back next time I see you," I said grabbing it from her hands.
"Yeah that works! Either give it to me in class or stop by my house this weekend. I'm just a few houses down from Ashley's. And here, give me your phone for a second." She grabbed my phone and put her number in it. Wait, she said in class... oh shit! I must have classes with her and didn't even realize it. Wow, I'm an ass. She handed me my phone and her eyes roamed over my arms. "How are your arms? Do they feel okay?"
"Yeah, I think I'm good. It might be a little rough trying to re-do them tomorrow..." I looked down at my feet silently hoping she would catch on.
"Call me tomorrow evening then! I'll come over and re-bandage them for you." She was completely serious. She practically stared me down, daring me to say no so she could tell me I'm stupid and she'd still be coming over.
"That sounds good." Satisfied with my reply, she went up the stairs with me following her. As she went out the door onto the front walkway, she turned around and looked at me.
