"I can't believe that I'm actually seeing you." Patrick said with a smile as he stepped into my apartment.
"I know." I smiled. "I was dumb to end our dates." I closed the door behind me and guided us to the living room."
"Well, we're here now." Patrick stood awkwardly by the couch and smiled at me.
"Well sit down! Do you want a beer, wine, some water?" I offered Patrick as he sat down on the couch.
"Oh, whatever wine you have!" He said. I smiled and went to the kitchen to pour our wine. On the way there, the situation started to settle in. Patrick is in my house. What are we going to do? I hardly know the guy besides that I like him. By the time I realized it was too late to worry about it, I was already handing Patrick his glass of wine.
"So," I said taking a seat. "What's new in the world of Patrick." I probed, trying to start a conversation.
"Oh nothing really... Umm.. I got a big promotion at work!! I'm in charge of the whole regional branch now!" He smiled before having some wine.
"Already? You just started working there. That's amazing dude!"
"Yeah, and I only had to black mail my boss, and have two of my co-workers fired." He said looking me in the eyes as he spoke.
"What the fuck, Patrick. What if that didn't work out?"
"I was only kidding dude." Patrick laughed as I sighed of relief. "I only had one person fired." He added at the ended, throwing us both into a laugh. "How is work for you?" Patrick asked
"Its okay I suppose. It pays the bills, but it's getting boring and all the clients are starting to seem the same to me. There are still few that stand out though."
"Well I hope it gets better for you." Patrick smiled and sipped his wine. "So who was that guy in the bathroom?"
"Oh... That was just Joe. We were actually on a date."
"You ditched your date to invite me over?"
"Yeah. I'm a pretty shit person." I responded with a chuckle.
"That's so sweet in a way. I mean sad for Joe, but good for me."
"Who were you with?"
"I was just having dinner with my sister." Patrick said.
"Oh that's cute! I'm an only child, I always wished I had a sibling."
"They're okay I guess." He set his glass of wine down and scooted closer to me on the couch. "I missed you, Pete." He said putting his hand on my thigh. I set my glass down and smile at him.
"I missed you too." I leaned in and kissed him. He pulled me down on the couch, never letting our lips part.

"Peter! Darling!! It is so good to see you again!" Jane said as she kissed each cheek."Its good to see you too!! I'm so glad you invited me to another one of your parties! They are always such a joy to attend!" I said, locking our arms and leading her away from the car.
"Please dear, they're fucking dreadful and we both know it." She laughed which in turn, caused me to laugh.
"No!!! They're so interesting! I love hearing all the juicy gossip about all the business men and their wives."
"I'm glad, because there is so much more." She said, as we walked up the steps to the house hosting the event.
"I'll tell you once we get in there. Smile darling, everyone is about to be watching." She smiled and handed the door men our invitation and they opened the seemingly massive doors. Other guest flocked to greet Jane as we walked through the entry room. We spent what felt like the better part of an hour just greeting a few guest.
"Of course dear! I'll find you later and you can tell me all about your trip to Paris." Jane waved to one of her friends walking away. "I am so glad that is done with." Jane said turning towards me.
"I agree. Let's go get a drink." We found the open bar and ordered our drinks.
"Oh, Peter. Do you see that man over there in the light blue tie?" She pointed to a ginger man with a beard across the room. "This is his first time here. There's whispers of corruption in that corporation, and I can guarantee you he didn't get there on his own."
"What do you mean?" I asked, not entirely getting what she was saying.
"Lets just say that Andrew didn't get that job by going above and beyond. I hear he had 3 people fired just so he could work his way up here. Imagine how many people were in on it." She said she put her glass down on an end table.
"How do you know? Do you know who all was involved?" I asked.
"I hear everything, and anyone else involved isn't important enough to be here. Not yet at least. I'm sure in a few months, we will start to see more new faces at these parties."
