Deimhos and Vette took a moment of rest into Vaiken's cantina before moving to the shuttle departures and picking a transport to Dromund Kaas.

While they were there, Vette asked: "So, hey, I've been thinking...maybe you want to take this shock collar off? You know, as a sign of thanks for my hard work on Korriban? Not that I don't enjoy the perpetual fear of electrocution but..."

Deimhos interrupted her before she could continue and said: "Don't worry Vette, you've earned it." and then he removed the shock collar.

Vette touched her neck with both her hands, feeling finally free from it. As she did this, she said: "Wow, now I feel stupid for not asking sooner. Don't worry. I'll try not to give you reason to slap that thing back on."

Deimhos replied with: "Don't worry, I won't put it back on. Doing what they did to you is wrong. I know it firsthand."

Vette looked confused, but she said regardless: "Well I'm not imprisoned or collared and it's sort of miserable weather, so I guess we should...uh, what happens now?".

Deimhos took a moment and then said: "I'd like to try this as partners. Just you and me working together as equals. What do you say?"

Vette was surprised and said: "What? Er, well, of course...me and my buddy the Sith. Nobody's going to pick on me at school!"

Deimhos made a look that made Vette feel awkward and so she said: "Sorry. Let's just get going, yeah?" and then they went to the shuttle departures.

While they looked for a transport, Vette couldn't help wondering who she had ended up with. Her "partner" wasn't like any of the other Acolytes she had seen at the academy. He wasn't cruel or bloodthirsty, but not even a saint. He had quite a temper and had fought two of the other prisoners back in the Academy's jails, but he had been treating her gently since they had properly met.

She wanted to ask him why he was like that, but she feared that any indiscreet question could cause the return of her shock collar. But at some point, she couldn't keep the question any more and therefore asked Deimhos: "Before we go anywhere else, may I ask why?"

Deimhos turned to her and asked: "Why what? Your shock collar?"

"Yeah. Not that I complain but, I wasn't expecting you to remove it so calmly. And you're not like most of your fellows.".

Deimhos took a deep breath and then answered with: "My "instructors" always said I was too soft and they punished me for that with tortures. And when those tortures include punches by a physically strong giant, lightings by a woman who enjoys hearing people scream and having your body cut with a scorching knife, you can either become as insane as they want or start understanding what it is like when people suffer. So that's why I'm not like my "fellows"."

Vette replied with: "Well, that's...a harsh life. But why do you stay here then?"

"There's no escape from the Sith order. The only thing I can do is take my Master's tasks and handle them the way I prefer. It's not pleasant, but there's nothing else to do. And if you don't like it, you can always leave and try to start a life somewhere else, Vette.".

Vette reflected a moment, and then she said: "Nah, I'll stay. At least in two it will be less hard of a job.".
