~~~~~
I woke up to darkness and the sound of my fan whirring. It felt like I had overslept but it was still early. Knowing I had some time on my hands, I lay on my bed thinking everything over again and giving it thorough second thought. After a few minutes my thoughts were shattered by the sound of my loud alarm clock. I shut it off and turned towards the window. It was early so the sun hadn't yet awakened, unlike myself who couldn't have been more awake. I rose from my bed and walked over to my dresser.
Getting dressed in a simple outfit of jean shorts and a grey tank top, I exited the room and traveled into the bathroom across the hall. I stopped to look at myself carefully in the bathroom mirror thinking about how this was the last time I would be the me I was looking at now. When I left this me would be gone and the real me, who had been hiding deep inside of myself would shine through.
I quickly finished getting ready and made my way to the kitchen to eat breakfast. When I opened the fridge, I realized that it was to early to eat and that I hadn't been hungry at all. As soon as I had made the decision not to eat, I was bombarded by everyone in the house suddenly getting up to help me pack my luggage into the car's extremely small trunk. Once my family were all squeezed into the car, I stood on the sidewalk in front of the old house and just staring at it with the melancholy feeling that I might never see it again. Saying my silent goodbyes to my childhood home, I piled into the backseat of the car, and waited as my parents started it up and drove off to send me across the world.
With a few stray tears and a bit of a runny nose, i said goodbye to my family. I figured i would miss them, they were my family after all. But i did find it hard to believe that they would miss me. But there I was, sitting at the terminal, anxiously waiting for the plane to arrive. To kill time, I listened to some music and doodled aimlessly in my notebook. A short time later, my flight was called and I froze entirely. This was actually about to happen. I was actually about to board a plane and travel across the world to a whole new country.
"Sweetheart, are you okay?" The sudden voice bringing me back to reality. I looked up to see an elderly woman staring at me with kind, knowing eyes.
I eyed her up and down, clearing my throat before replying, "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for asking." I smiled at her, waiting for her response which came as a comforting smile in my direction.
I got up grab my carry on and headed towards the line. After waiting patiently for my turn, I made it to my window seat and silently thanked God for giving me such a perfect seat. Now all I had left to do was wait.
