Klaus and I got out of the car in a warehouse, Klaus in a better mood than yesterday as he told me, "Welcome back to Chicago, Kaylin."

"What are we doing here?" I asked.

"I know how much you loved it here. Bringing back memories of the good old party, killer girl days?"

I hid a smile, tilting my head. "Blacked out most of them. Like you said, a lot of blood, a lot of partying. A hell of a good time, but the details are all a blur."

"Well, that is a crying shame," Klaus told me. "The details are what makes it legend. Word was she got so lonely, she escaped to the city for comfort."

"Everything was off limits then, which made everything so much fun," I said.

Chicago, 1920s

Kaylin Salvatore was making out heavily with a total stranger, the man running his hand along her leg as she tilted her head toward his neck, biting, drinking until he died.

Getting out of the car, she wiped the blood away with her black gloves, a finger trailing around her red lips, her blonde hair curled in under itself, smiling as she reached into the car behind her, grabbing her boa and laying it around her shoulders.

Walking inside, Kaylin saw Stefan Salvatore as the singer and owner of the bar saw him. "Guess who my eyes have just spied, ladies? Looking for a good time, Mr. Salvatore?"

"Save me a dance, Gloria," Stefan told her.

Stefan reached for a glass of champagne before his baby sister grabbed it first, walking along before he saw her face. "Ooh. Please, help yourself."

"Oh, I always do," Kaylin told him as she turned to face him, his eyebrows raising slightly in surprise. "You should remember that, big brother."

"Kaylin," Stefan said with a small smile. "Long time."

"Not long enough, Stefan," Kaylin said before turning to walk away.

Stefan caught her arm before she did. "No, no, no. Have a drink with me. We can catch up. Maybe you can stop hating me."

Kaylin gave her brother a small smile, holding her finger to her lips before walking away.

Now

"Chicago was a magical place," Klaus told me.

"Yeah, well, I'll take your word for it," I said. "Like I said, I don't remember most of it. Not even seeing or talking to Stefan."

"Going to get down to business, then?"

"Why am I still with you? We had our fun, you know, I could actually deal with more fun, but your hybrids failed. I mean, don't you want to move on?"

"We're going to see my favorite witch. If anyone can help us with our hybrid problem, it's her."

Flashback

Stefan and Kaylin were drinking at the bar, drunk and laughing loudly, a blonde coming to stop their fun. "Sorry to crash the family reunion, but some of us actually came to here to hear the music. Not you."

"I am so sorry, sweetheart," Stefan said. "Are we offending you?"

Kaylin laughed as the other blonde girl touched his face. "It would take a lot more than a baby face like this to offend me."
