Before the summer began, Tyler Lockwood had tried to kill me on a full moon. Damon had saved me, and had gotten bit in the process.

An evil hybrid named Klaus had killed Jules, Jenna and Elena. Elena had come back to life as a human. Klaus thought she was still dead.

To save Damon from a fatal werewolf bite, Stefan and I had gone to Klaus for help. He had tried to kill me. Stefan had made a deal, that if Klaus saved Damon and let me live, he'd do anything he wanted.

Only, Klaus didn't like Stefan.

So, he had bargained with me to where I would leave instead of Stefan. But he had screwed Stefan over for the summer by making him drink a lot of human blood. He even bit me to make Stefan and me listen.

It had worked.

Stefan had gone home on a major bender while I left with Klaus.

And over the summer, Damon, Stefan and Elena had been looking for me.

And over the summer, we had been looking for werewolves to turn into hybrids.

That was why we were in Tennessee, looking for werewolves.

We saw a girl walk outside of her house. "Rudy!" She whistled. "Rudy. Come on. It's too hot to make me come looking for you."

She leaned down and picked up a toy.

When she turned around, Klaus suddenly appeared behind her, who said with an American accent, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you."

"Can I help you?"

"Yeah, my car, um, my car ran out of gas a couple of miles back. Eh. I feel like I've been walking forever. Yours is the first house I came to, so I was just hoping I could use your phone."

"Don't you have a cell phone?"

"Huh, yeah," Klaus said, showing her his phone. "Battery died. Look, I promise I'm not a serial killer. I just wanna use your phone."

The girl sighed. "Sure."

Klaus took a step forward. "So . . . I can come in?"

"No, I'll get the phone and I'll bring it out to you."

He dropped the American accent and used his own British-sounding out, annoyed. "I thought you country folks were supposed to be more trusting."

"I'm from Florida," the girl said.

"Well, that explains it." Klaus grabbed her throat and compelled her. "Now show me a little southern hospitality. Sweet pea."

So they both went inside.

The other woman from inside ran for the front door. She saw me, screaming.

"I love it when they run!" Klaus said.

The woman in front of me gave up. "He's in Toll. It's near the border. A bar called Southern Comfort. It's on Highway 41."

"Thank you, love," Klaus said. He looked at the girl standing in front of him. "Now, can my girlfriend come in?"

I gave him a look.

The girl was crying. "Yes."

I stepped inside, pointing at Klaus. "By the way, I'm not his girlfriend."

Klaus smiled. "She says that everytime." He looked at me, talking about the girl who invited us in. "Kill this one quickly." He looked at the other woman. "And make sure that one suffers. I'll be in the car while you have your fun."
