"Sehun. Do you know where Baekhyun is?" Chanyeol asked upon greeting."No. I haven't heard from him since yesterday. Why? Is something wrong? Did you guys have a fight?" Sehun asked.
Chanyeol shook his head, although Sehun couldn't see, and said, "No. We never fight. And that's what makes no sense. I was texting him when all of a sudden he just stopped replying." Chanyeol paused, then quietly muttered, "I have a weird feeling Sehun. Can you meet me at Baekhyun's apartment in ten?"
"If I speed. Yeah. See you then Chanyeol," Sehun said before cutting the call.
Chanyeol cut his side of the call too before looking at his messages, the last one he'd read from Baekhyun, that said:
To: Channie 😘❤️
From: Baekkie 🌸💕Some random stranger keeps texting me . . . Oh well. I wish you were here. I already miss you like crazy! 😢😘
Chanyeol hadn't thought anything of it because sometimes he'd get texts from random numbers too, but right after he had said that, he stopped replying. It didn't set well with Chanyeol. He was worried that maybe the random owner of the phone number was harassing him and Baekhyun was too afraid to say anything. But the part of Chanyeol denying anything bad kept insisting that he had merely fallen asleep.
But that still didn't feel right. Something felt wrong. And he had to know what as soon as possible.
When the cab pulled up to Baekhyun's apartment, Chanyeol was met with a horrifying sight. There was both police cars and an ambulance, and among the crowd he couldn't see Baekhyun anywhere.
He jumped out of the cab, throwing money over the seat before it even came to a stop when he spotted Sehun. He was standing on the sidewalk looking completely lost. Chanyeol ran up to him and grabbed his shoulder as he spun him around.
"What's going on?!" Chanyeol frantically demanded.
"Baekhyun . . . He–he . . ." Sehun couldn't speak and Chanyeol had to restrain himself from yelling and screaming at him.
Chanyeol was really close to shaking him when he saw an officer. He ran towards them and asked in a haggard state, "Please! Can you tell me what happened to the man who lives in this apartment?"
"Sorry. I can only disclose information to family at this time," the officer responded.
"I am his family," Chanyeol immediately replied. "He–he's my fiancé!"
The officer glanced down at Chanyeol's hand and muttered, "I don't see a ring."
Chanyeol wanted to explode, but he restrained himself and replied through gritted teeth, "Thank you, for all your help." And then he stomped back to Sehun as he demanded, "Sehun! You need to tell me what the hell is going on right now!? That douchebag cop didn't tell me shit! What happened to my Baekhyun?!"
Sehun shook his head and quietly muttered, "I don't even completely know, Chanyeol. All they could tell me was that he was a–attacked . . . by an intruder." Sehun choked out.
Chanyeol blanched as his mind began to race. Someone broke into Baekhyun's apartment; someone scared him; someone hurt him. And Chanyeol hadn't been there because he worked the next morning.
His eyes began to well up as he brokenly whispered, "Shit. This is my fault . . ."
Sehun rounded on his in bewilderment and gasped, "What?! How is this your fault?"
"Because he asked me to stay with him, but I left...."
Sehun sighed, his eyes reflecting his sympathy and worry as he softly replied, "Chanyeol, this isn't your fault. You can't blame yourself for this, especially if—-" Sehun trailed off and shook his head before saying, "What I mean is, you can't let that decision haunt you. We didn't know this would happen. So please, don't blame yourself. For Baekhyun's sake, don't hold onto the guilt."
