A Late Night Walk

Peter P.O.V.

Peter had been juggling all of his responsibilities pretty well. He had been doing regular checks on security cameras in the area, stayed leveled with his homework, and even got a few days in to work on his and Michelle's project. He was (surprisingly) feeling really good.

Michelle had been very focused on their project, however. She didn't really like giving Peter much free time, which could be really difficult. Sometimes he would finish his portion of the project around 11:00 p.m. and stay up possibly another hour looking over security footage. On the bright side, he felt like they were gonna nail their project!

Peter just finished looking at some security footage around the city. There was no sign of those guys! Maybe they could turn invisible... hey, you never know! He looked up at the clock and it read 12:00. Not too bad, he could still get in at least 6 hours of sleep. He was just getting comfortable when his phone went off and nearly gave him heart failure.

It was from MJ... weird. She never calls.

"Hey MJ. What's up?"

"Hi loser. Did you happen to grab our notes from the library? I thought I did but I can't find them."

"I don't know, let me check."

Peter rummaged around his room looking for the note sheet with MJ's unique writing. No where.

"Sorry, I don't see it."

"Shit. I really need that. Hey I think the library's still open."

"Who the hell keeps a library open this late?!"

"I don't know, but whoever it is may have just saved our asses."

"How about I go with you. I don't want you walking around all alone at night. That library's in a shady place, too."

"Whatever loser. Meet me at the corner of of 5th and Baine street."

"Okay, see you."

With that Peter hung up. Why did he offer to go with her? He knew perfectly well she could handle herself... but something told him to go. It was probably just his natural sense. Ever since Uncle Ben, he's never been able to watch someone go off alone at night. It scared him.

He got into some jeans and a soft sweater and headed out. As he was walking, he appreciated the cool air on his face. It was actually pretty nice right now, which was surprising considering today was so hot Peter's face almost melted off. Theoretically of course.

He got to the corner they agreed to meet on and waited. A minute or two later he saw Michelle walking closer to him. She was wearing some stripped pajama bottoms and a shirt that read, "I seriously don't care."

"Hey, you look nice."

"Thanks weirdo. You look tired." Compliment or not, that was certainly true."The library's not far. I still can't believe I left the notes! After I made sure we had everything I forgot the stinking notes! I met be tired, too."

"It's not you're fault MJ. I should have seen them, I didn't even have anything in my hands."

"You've seemed a bit... distant lately. Like wherever you are theres something else you'd rather be doing." That's 'cause there is, Peter thought.

"Nah, just a little shook about that O-Positive blood outbreak. Like, what if it spreads, you know. I'm just happy my aunt's O-Negaitive like me."

"Yeah, my uncle's O-Positive. He was just about to visit, too, when the outbreaks happened. Close call."

"Definitely. Hey, I can see the library." He had almost forgotten why they were here in the first place. "Yep, it's open." They walked up to the front door and went inside, the warm air flooding over them instantly.

"Ah, I see it! Thanks goodness I didn't lose this. Would've been so sad, I spent so long on them." Michelle walked over to the table in the corner they always sat at and grabbed the small stack of papers. "I was half afraid someone would take it."

"I would've been surprised if somebody stole five pages of notes and sketches for a Junior math project. Like, very surprised." Peter said without thinking. It was true, though.

"Hey! These are good notes!" She said with a smile smacking him on the arm with the papers as she walked pass. "I'm surprised someone didn't take them. These sketches are amazing." Sarcasm was strong in her voice and Peter laughed. Who knew Michelle could be kinda funny?

They began walking back, continuing to laugh and joke. MJ was surprising Peter more and more with her personality. At first she had been so closed off. Distant. She would always read and only talk very briefly. Then she started hanging out with Peter and Ned and she became... more open. She would talk more and get in o the conversation. Peter was really beginning to like this new MJ they found. It was the original Michelle, still smart and opinionated, but she was now funny and up-beat. She really let-loose.

"So, did you ever watch those Star Wars movies?"

"I did, as a matter of fact. Episode one was awful. I almost wanted to die while watching it. Episode two and three were still bad, but a lot better. I've made it up to the fifth one and it was, as much as I hate to admit it, pretty good."

I couldn't have said it better myself. Seriously though, what were they thinking with episode one. And don't get me started on Jar-Jar. He almost made he hate George Lucas. And the age gap between Anakin and Padme  is a bit disturbing in the second one. He had just turned nineteen!"

"Yeah, it made me a little uncomfortable."

"I'm glad you watched them. Now  have another person to geek out with."

"Don't push it Parker."

Peter let out a laugh as he took in Michelle's appearance. She was actually quite pretty. Her hair was a beautiful shade of brown and her lack of a lot of make-up made Peter a little happy. He never did like girls with too much of it. I was a little overwhelming. And her brown eyes seemed to sparkle in the light of the street lamps.

"What you staring at Peter? Don't make me punch you in the face."

"Oh, um, nothing. I was just thinking."

"Thinking again, huh. Alright if yo-" MJ stopped dead in her tracks and looked at Peter. " I think someone's following us." She said in an almost whisper.

Peter turned around and, sure enough, there were four men stepping out of the shadows with guns. But not regular guns.

And these four men's ski masks and weapons looked sickly familiar.
