'So, how have you been?' Ethan asked, as he perched on the edge of the cream sofa.
'Better than you apparently. What happened?' I asked concerned at the state of his wellbeing.
'Well Mother Nature thought it would be funny to give me the flu in the middle of Spring.' He replied, before giving in and laying down on the sofa.
'Oh you poor thing. Have you had anything to eat?' I asked, placing my school bag on the floor beside me and crossing my arms over my chest.
'Well I've been bedridden all day drifting in and out of sleep, so no.'
'Okay. I'll be right back.' I announced, before heading towards the kitchen.
'Wait, Summer what are you doing?' He croaked from the lounge.
'I would say making you breakfast, but it's nearly two in the afternoon.' I replied. 'Italian minestrone or chicken noodle?' I asked, peering in one of the large cupboards.
'Summer you don't have to-'
'Don't say anything. This is my way of making amends.' I sheepishly peered through the door frame that separated the kitchen and the lounge. 'Plus I am your babysitter. It's the least I could do.' I teased, before getting back to business.

An hour later, Ethan had eaten and was starting to look slightly better than he looked when I arrived, and I had gone to pick up Penny and Luke from school.
'I'm glad you and Ethan are friends now Summer.' Penny happily kicked her legs back and forth as she dug into her parmesean chicken and vegetables.
'I'm glad too Penny.' I chuckled, plating up Luke's dinner, before looking over my shoulder and teasingly sticking my tongue out at Ethan.
'Who said we weren't friends before?' He appeared behind me, sneaking an arm over my shoulder.
'Is he your best fwend?' Luke asked me, his eyes gleaming with hope.
'No, because you're my best friend, Lukey-boy!' I stated, before tickling him, a squeal escaping from his mouth.
'Yeah, well Penny's my best friend.' Ethan defensively teased, moving to stand by her.
'I wanna be Summer's best friend.' Penny pouted, moving away from Ethan.
'Well what can I say. They love me!' I shrugged, engulfing Penny and Luke into a hug. 'Maybe next time.' I mocked, before laughing as Ethan rolled his eyes - but I could see the faint outline of a smirk he tried to hide.

After an hour of fighting about what book to read and several trips to the bathroom, the kids were finally tucked up in bed, asleep.
I didn't really have much homework to do, so me and Ethan had decided to watch a movie.
Just to kill time until Rosanna was back.
'What do you want to watch?' I asked, flicking through the many movies that were displayed on Netflix.
'I don't mind. I mean, I'll watch any genre. Anything but a chick flick.' He replied. A curl of his coffee-bean brown hair fell over his face, before he brought his hand up to push it back into place.
'You're worse than a girl deciding which restaurant to eat at.' I muttered, before landing on one. 'Let's watch The Avengers.' I suggested, to which he nodded.
'I'll go get the snacks.' He announced, getting up.
'Take your medicine whilst you're there.' I reminded him, before putting the movie on, then pausing it.
When he returned, he sat slightly closer to me, and placed a bowl of popcorn in between our laps. I retrieved the bags of sweets from his other hand and placed them on the coffee table in front of us.
'Ready?' I asked.
'Ready.' He replied, as I played the movie and the music started up.

We had been stuck in the same position for a while, our eyes staring intently at the screen.
His hand just slightly skimming over my lower leg, where the popcorn bowl once was.
Sitting in the same seat for the past hour or so meant my butt had become completely numb, so I readjusted my position.
Little did I know, my skirt had shifted a little higher than it was, and his hands had accidentally brushed my thigh.
'Summer?' He suddenly sat up.
'Mhm?' I mumbled, shoving a handful of M&M's into my mouth.
'What happened here?' He asked, hesitantly rubbing his thumb over a now healed scar in the same spot, causing an eruption of tingles within my lower abdomen.
Realising what he was talking about, I shot up and ruffled my skirt back down. Grabbing a corner of the sofa blanket, I covered my legs with it, before glancing back up at the TV, trying to avoid the feeling of his stare burning into me.
'Summer.' He persisted, turning the movie off, so that I was now glaring at a black screen. 'Summer, look at me.' He hushed in a more calm tone. 'Who hurt you?'
Looking up into his eyes through my own tearful ones, I knew that I could trust him with whatever I was about to tell him.
I wanted him to know.
'My dad.' I whispered, a single tear rolling down my cheeks, our eyes still locked.
