"Julia, dear...i have bad news."
my heart dropped about 50 feet as my eyes instantly well up with tears. shes gone, isnt she? shes gone. oh my god.
i started shaking violently as duke asked what she meant.
"Your friend-"
"girlfriend." i corrected instanty.
"your girlfriend has gone into surgery. part of her chest was scared by glass, and it was dangerously close to her heart."
i gasp softly, a i am relived but also even more worried. now there was a chance of "what if."
what if she didn't make it? what if she was never the same? what if the doctor cant fix it? what if her mother blamed me for it?
I ask her when i can see her. he says i cant see her until the surgery is over, but if i was up for it i could see her before then. i nod vigorously, starting to get up and holding my hospital gown closed. I quickly make my way to the door and down the hall to Roses room.
Duke trails behind me, making sure i dont trip. i was so nervous, my knees were shaking as i walked. i open the door briskly walking in, seeing rose asleep with her mother in a chair next to her.
her mom smiles sweetly, witch is not what i expected. she stands up and offers me the cair, seeing as im in a hospital gown. i feel exhausted, so i sit and timidly look over at rose. her beautiful soft face looked so peaceful.
her mom clears her throat and looks down at me. i look up and see a sweet woman, early 40's, with a smile just like Roses. she has hazel eyes, unlike Rose's brown. her short wavy hair was a dusty blonde, like Rose. she really did look like her daughter.
"Her surgery is today." i nod and take roses hand in mine. evidently, that ended up waking her. she turns her head to me and smiles. i chuckle. we talk for a bit, and at one point a nurse comes in and announces it's time for the surgery. I kiss her head as she's wheeled out of the room. my anxiety slowly settles in.
A horrible thought creeped back into my head.
