"who are you?"

The words don't register in my mind at first. I chuckled. "Sweetie, it's me. Cmon stop pretending."

Roses expression dosent change. Everyone's looking at me. Tears well up in my eyes.

"H-hey stop pretending Rose...i-its me, you know me-"

"I don't know who you are."

Tears spill down my cheeks as the realisation hits me.

She has amnesia.

I sob loudly and cry, wiping the tears on my sleeve, but they just keep coming.

"I-what.."

The doctor pulls me aside in the hall.

"She is experiencing, a uh..a side effect, if you will, of the surgery."

Side effect.

"Side effect?! She forgot about me, she forgot everything and it's just a side effect to you-"

"I understand your concern, Ms Velasco, but please note that she can recover her memory, and she hasn't forgotten everything. She isn't in pain or discomfort."

"But she forgot me." I cross my arms and look down, not knowing what else to say. I was angry, and sad, and I wanted to punch that doctor in the nose.

I walk back into the hospital room, where Roses mother is sitting next to the bed and talking to her quietly. I quickly wipe my tears from my cheeks.

"Do you really not know me?" My voice cracks

"I..no I don't, I'm sorry.."

I sigh and her mother gives me a sympathetic look. "We can try to 'restore' her memories, by telling stories or showing her things." She shrugged and started to get up. "I'll leave you to it."

I sit in the chair beside her and she smiles at me with uncertainty.

So I tell her the whole story. The wrong number, how she turned out to be the same girl I loved, the thing with Duke, how I came out to my mother and we got into a car crash. I told her how I really liked and cared about her and how I hoped she would remember me, because for the love of God, I've never had anything like this.

She blinked. Then smiled.

"Julia, I knew it."

I look at her confused. "What?"

"I knew you'd fix it."

"D-do what?"

She chuckles and smiles with teary eyes.

"I remember you"

I exhale and get up quickly, cupping her cheek and kissing her passionately.

At that moment she was all I wanted in the world.

Little did I know. Everything would chance soon enough.
