When I arrived, the first thing I noticed was the loud, high-pitched voices yelling downstairs.

One of the voices questioned, “…are you sure?”

“Go and see for yourself,” a male voice stated casually, despite the chaotic situation. That was obviously Leo.

“Even if she is, isn’t it too early? She only had her birthday the other week, she’s young and she only just knew how to transform. She’s still too inexperienced to confirm anything.”

It was my parents and Leo arguing in the living room. My mother was never known for having a quiet voice. I guess that’s what resulted from teaching for nearly ten years.

“Well, let’s go and see, ok? See for ourselves. Where is she?”

“Her room. She came in just then.”

That was proof of our great listening abilities. Even though I came in as my mother was screeching at the top of her lungs, Leo could still hear my footsteps a mile away.

The three burst into my room, just as I was trying to sleep. They asked to see my fur up close and pulled out a torch. They were satisfied and left. I’d changed back unwillingly in my sleep; it was something I couldn’t control it subconsciously.

Several days passed, every night I met up with Leo and transformed. I was getting better and better at this.

I soon met the pack. They were extremely hospitable, even though they seemed so hostile towards me before, when I first transformed. They said that they were shocked to see that I was a brown-black fur hybrid and knowing the truth made them relieved. I began to feel at home with them and they made some delicious salmon. They believed that I would make a good wife to Leo and I ended up having to explain that I didn’t like him that much, but just as friends.

One of the Elders told me, “You seem to be picking things up unnaturally fast. Who are your parents?”

                “Raquel and Brandon.”

“Ah, that explains things. While they were younger, they were extremely strong hybrids, like yourself. You were a late-bloomer right?”

                “Why yes.”

“Hm… I guess that answers things. Usually those who are destined for greatness bloom last.”

“I’m guessing my sister and brother didn’t have this problem, as they were early-birds.”

A low growl seemed to originate at the word 'bird', but the Elder snapped out of it quickly. It was instinct to react to such insignificant words. “Hm, and who were these siblings of yours?”

                “Tiffany and Peter.”

“Ah, I taught them not long ago. They are off on cat-business, I presume?”

“They said for work, so I guess so.” Truth was, both of them had moved out of the house recently. I hadn’t spoken to them for a while now. “Peter is doing well with his girlfriend, Savannah.”

“Ah, you may not know, but Savannah is also one of us.”

“That I already know.” She’d changed when I’d scared the living daylights out of her in one of my late night breaks. I was used to others changing, but not myself.
