Elsewhere, a meeting was called. Eyes darkened with fury and the atmosphere tingled with tension.
"It is time to strike, my friends!" a voice called to the crowd. "It is high time that the world remember of our existence and stamp out our enemies."
Cheering erupted from the crowd. Flaming torches and weapons raised. The green pair of eyes in the front lit with delight.
He would finally get his revenge. He would finally be able to rid the world of werewolves. He would finally be able to kill his long-lost cousins for what they had done; they had tossed aside this supposed weakling. Tackled him to the ground and made him bruised and battered. Made him have to live life in this harsh, harsh world, but it was no more. He could take no more. He wouldn't have to take any more. Any friends of his foes were his enemies.
Lately, he had been riddled by war scenes in his dreams more and more often. His favourite made him happier and it showed around the tribe. However, it was the last scene that made him break out in beads of sweat and find himself slumped in a discomforting position on the floor in the dead of night. It was a scene of a caramel brown near black furred half-cat with a bloody claw, plunging it back into him. It smiled wily at him. He spat out a curse and his vision blurred with the stain of red.
It was blood.

Our next pit stop was to find the Ancient Chronicles. Unfortunately, it was in the Old Library, a place that had been gone for at least eighty years now, making this journey even more difficult. Thankfully, I was wrong to doubt that we would find it, because we ended up finding it by accident after reading the scroll of its last known whereabouts. I'd tripped on an angular stone, which was actually a corner of the library's roof.
With new-found energy, we quickly found an entrance to begin our search for the book. Our challenge here was not booby traps, but one of puzzles. The halls into which we found ourselves in, had numerous doors until finally getting to access the library and its wide collection of books. Much of it was on ancient history, which I was now glad that I'd been taught it. Leo answered most of the questions and we found ourselves at a door with many cat-like symbols. We'd have to complete this maze in under a minute and it looked complicated. The consequences would be to start over again from the first door, with different history questions. I let Leo complete it and amazingly, he got it done on the first trial. The bottom slab slid across and the top one I pushed aside in one big push.
There was just enough light filtering from above that we could read the words. The library was dusty, making Leo sneeze. We quickly found the Ancient Chronicles and grabbed it, placing it in my bag. The building began to tremor and we ran out just before a huge boulder squashed us like bugs.
Gasping for breath, he gave me a knowing look and smiled.
It was dark now and night had fallen upon the valley we were stuck in. Leo told me that it was too dark to continue. He advised that we set up camp and that was what we did. I went off to look for firewood and he went to make our sleeping grounds suitable for ourselves. After finding the firewood, I made dinner and he almost wafted in with the fragrance.
We ate like we hadn't eaten for ages. We'd deserved it at the very least. Leo took out the Crowns and the Ancient Chronicle and observed it carefully in the light of the fire. The fire cast an eerie glow on his face, making him look almost attractive. I forced myself not to think like that. He was a friend and no more. That was already settled.
Although he had done so much for me, I'd done very little to repay him and I was still in debt for his kind acts. Perhaps because I was to save his pack and the werewolves, I was in fact helping him. I wasn't sure.
He called for me, jerking me out of my little world of thoughts.
"Tyra, check this out!" he said, indicating to something on the crown. I had left the locket behind, but held on to the ring, which was now on my finger.
