Part 15

Lexi was unsure whether to feel relieved or heartbroken. The first was understandable, now that she was free of the pressure of not falling in love with Dante. Yet, the latter was something she couldn’t understand, as she waited anxiously, day after day, for the man to appear. She knew it shouldn’t bother her, but the fact that Dante was now ignoring her bugged her maddeningly.

Ever since that day Dante transported her to Lyon @Rais, he hadn’t seemed to be himself. Well, even if he had been himself, Lexi would never be able to see it, for the last time she’d seen him was… after she fell asleep that day. Dante had found excuses to be free of her since that day, and Louis had been tasked with watching over her instead. Her ally, also her best friend, had jumped at the chance to learn self-defense, and she rarely saw Alvron anymore as he trained hard. While she was touched that the vampires trusted and thought enough about them to teach Alvron to protect them both, she wasn’t sure if Alvron was the right person to teach.

She wasn’t afraid to say that she often viewed Alvron as the young, childish and usually disobedient younger brother in their wacky relationship. Teaching Alvron to fight properly was almost like giving a rebellious and mischievous young boy a gun.

Still, it was what Alvron had wanted, and Lexi wouldn’t stop the eager man (quite a boy, in all sense), before he rushed to start his training sessions with Chris, another vampire that she didn’t quite manage to spend much time with. Since her best friend was now gone from her accompaniment, Louis had taken up the role to be her companion, and she was doubly grateful.

Quickly, they got on to be good friends, for she found Louis a very amiable soul, and he found her an interesting conversation partner. Over time, she managed to talk to Vanda, Jean-Jacques and even Jack. She met Laz once, though he was exactly as Sky described –mousy and timid. In fact, the man was so surprised and shock to see her and Louis coming toward him at the lab that he’d all but dropped his papers, scrambling away to hide.

It is easy to say that Lexi eventually got on well with the vampire population, save Zanetta. Their leader, Cian, was rarely seen, and she barely got any chance to talk to him at all. And then there was Dante…

“Are you sure he’s not avoiding me?” She asked for the tenth time over the span of a few weeks, watching Louis’s expression to make sure that he wasn’t lying to her. All she could do right now was only to trust that Dante’s best friend understood his friend as well as he thought he did.

“We’ve gone through this a million times.” Louis groaned. “He’s going after Skalov alone, so his time is taken up entirely. Between the competition and hunting a crazy vampire, he doesn’t have time to be entertaining us.”

“But I don’t even see him when he comes back, and when I try to find him at his room, he’s either still dead from the sun, or missing. I feel like he’s avoiding me, Louis.” She protested, coloring her design with frustration. Ever since visiting Lyon @Rais, she’d been tempted to find her inner fashion designer-self, and had been in the middle of casually drawing a design before Louis dropped by and remarked her for her ability to come up with a novel idea.

Though her work wasn’t the best, Louis had encouraged for her to refine her work, and acting as her mentor, she was now at the studio, carefully churning out a new dress that, if she did things right and if Louis was satisfied enough, could be sold under the Le Rais label.

“He’s a busy man. Casanova men are used to such lives; flitting around and bustling in their busy little lives.” Louis tried to cover up, but Lexi understood very well what he was trying to cover up.

“Busy seducing and having sex with women, you mean.” She replied flatly, forcing her attention back to the sewing of the soft dress. She hadn’t started out with silk in mind, but Louis had pointed out that it would make the best material for her kind of dress, so she’d gone along with the material.
