Part 23

Lexi knew it was a bad time, but she figured it was the best time, if any. If she didn’t open her mouth now, then she wouldn’t find the time or the guts ever again to surrender that information. She definitely didn’t want her lover to hear the words, her inner secret from Alvron’s no-good rattling mouth, did she?

It was her private secret –it should be her who would tell him.

“Is something wrong, Lexi?” Dante seemed worried at the race her heart was pacing, and it only reminded Lexi how experienced her boyfriend was to life in general. Anything Dante didn’t have a natural talent in, he made up with years and years of experience.

“Um, Dante?” She asked, forcing herself to keep her voice low. This wasn’t even about keeping the silence to make the room as unsuspicious as it could be. It was the sanctity of her secret that she didn’t dare to speak of louder than a whisper.

“You need to calm down, Lexi. Your heart is racing badly.” Dante must have calmed down since their last conversation, where she’d assured him of her love for him. She’d felt really glad that they had cleared the air between them, and she know saw how clearly the both of them viewed the relationship. There was still going to be problems, but they would always overcome it the same way. With love.

“I need to tell you something. Something that I’ve kept from you all this while.”

The uncertainty in her voice must have been obvious, for Dante paused in whatever he had been ready to say.

“Is this about your ex-boyfriend and why you hate womanizers?” Dante’s guess was disconcerting, but she realized yet another thing she hadn’t told him about herself. Her ex-boyfriend had been a touchy subject for her, but now that she had promised herself to Dante… it suddenly seemed so very insignificant.

“Not really, but are you really so curious about him?” Lexi asked, willing to steer the conversation away if Dante allowed it for a few more minutes of self-preparation.

“He’s been on my mind since you glared at me the first time we met. What could he have done to scar such a perfect woman like you? He must have been blind to let you go –much less for another woman.” Dante admitted sheepishly, and she could only laugh softly. Trust the man to be so fixated over the problem of her ex.

“It is nothing much, honestly. I was ready to let our relationship go to the physical level, but before we could get anything done, this woman, Cecilia, shows up at his doorstep with a baby bump. She explained that the baby was his and wanted him to take responsibility for the baby. Of course I got mad. I screamed at him, but he turned around and said it was my problem for not thinking about the future with him. All he was sorry about was forgetting to use protection when he slept with the slut, and he even accused me about dreaming about a Hollywood life when he was the one who had betrayed me. Things went down south from there, but before I could run away from him in anger, Alvron came charging in and gave him a balls-crushing kick right in the nuts. I never saw him since, but I heard he made a family with Cecilia in the end with their child.” Lexi explained, surprised that she didn’t feel as much pain about the fact as before.

Good lords, had she finally… let it go?

The sound of chains softly hitting each other shocked them, before Dante froze, as if forgetting that he couldn’t move his hands. They kept still, waiting for some sort of suspicion to be stirred outside, but none was found, and slowly they let the tension go. Still, the expression on Dante’s face was feral, and Lexi saw that his hands had fisted.

Aww, she struggled to keep the grin from her face.

“That man is the world’s stupidest man to have left you like that. How could he possibly cheat on a goddess like you? To be with you, just the idea of you… it’s all a man needs.” Dante expressed, barely remembering to keep his voice low.
