Part 18

Dante was confused as hell as to the problem that seemed to have worsened -somehow. The problem was that he wasn’t even sure what the problem was, just the fact that his lady love was more reserved, sadder, quieter, and generally not being the Lexi he once knew.

That said, it didn’t mean he loved her less, but it definitely made him more worried. Was something wrong? Was it something he did?

“What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?” Lexi turned to see him staring at her, but Dante shook his head, muttering a short excuse.

“This is unlike you, Dante.” She said, playfully flicking him lightly on his forehead. “Shouldn’t you be saying something about my face being so beautiful that you have to stare at it every single second you have? Are you sure you are a Casanova?”

She still knew him like the back of her hand. He gave an absent smile at her comment, but was unable to lift his spirits. He knew something was wrong between them –something that was unhealthy in their relationship –but the problem was that he didn’t know exactly what. The feeling had been there since… well, since Cian called to talk to Lexi alone. Dante had found his girlfriend crying silently on the second floor stairs, and even though he managed to calm her down eventually, she refused to tell him what was wrong.

What had Cian said to her? Dante could hardly see himself exploding into Cian’s office and demanding an explanation of whatever he said to Lexi, but it didn’t mean he was less worried. What could Cian have said to Lexi to make her cry?

“Come on, can’t you look a little happier? We’re here to see your designs and mine on sale! It’s my debut!” Lexi exclaimed with obviously tempered glee. Thanks to Skalov’s henchmen posing a threat to everyone’s life in the human world, Louis had pushed for his designs to be rushed. The unveiling of the season’s designs and newest styles was pushed forwards, and Dante had managed to rush in a few quick pieces while helping his girlfriend touch up her first and only design.

And, for the first time, Louis had allowed Dante to attend the unveiling amongst the human crowd, along with Lexi. The two of them weren’t allowed to announce that they were part of the designing committee behind the dresses and outfits that were to be displayed, but they sure in damned hell were allowed to auction for them.

Dante had his number ready for Lexi’s design to come out on sale. Given the rouse that he’d seen amongst the crowd the first time they saw Lexi’s amazing design, Dante was sure he had quite some competition to ward off.

“I am happy. Did you see the crowd’s reaction when your design came out? It was like a stir through the crowd.” Dante replied in a whisper, leaning closer to his girlfriend, who nodded vigorously. He –too –had been amazed by Lexi’s design the first time he was introduced to it. It was no surprise that the crowd thought it a refresher too.

“I’m so glad Louis allowed me to try. I’m so glad you helped me improve on it!” Lexi almost forgot to keep her voice low, and Dante leaned in closer, as if to remind her that they weren’t supposed to reveal that they were part of the producers of the amazing show.

“Your idea is novel and new. It is something the fashion industry is always hungry for. I’m jealous, Lexi.” He teased, quickly covering up for his previous moment of unease.

“Jealous?” She toned down considerably, for the auction of one of Louis’s dress was going on.

“You can sing so well; you design so amazingly, and you’re so beautiful. You must have genes from a God.” He complimented with a genuine smile, and Lexi’s smile grew brighter –with love.
