—Acting Out—

On Wednesdays, the cinema close to campus sold tickets on sale for half the price. I threw on a blue flannel with black jeans and brown boots. My black hair was down in body waves and it moved with me. I didn't put on any make-up because this wasn't a date.
I met Finn in front of the building and he led me to his car. He opens the door to his white Range Rover for me to get in. "I like your car," I tell him while admiring the interior.
He smiles. "Thanks. My parents got it for me as a gift for going to college." Hmm, must be nice.
"How come I'm just now seeing you? I mean, we've been going to the same university for three years now and it's now we've crossed paths."
Finn chuckles. "Were you expecting to know everyone on campus? Um, I don't know. Maybe this year was meant to be different." He glances at me then looks back at the road.
I didn't trust him, but I don't question it. I'll just sit back and see where this takes us. Finn paid for the tickets to see an action movie and snacks. We sat in a row close to the back and talked during the previews. We didn't get too personal. We ended up leaving the movie early because a couple behind us were having sex. The audacity.
"Can we go grab something to eat?" I asked as we step out of the cinema.
"Sure. We can go to the CHILLIN' LOUNGE. I've never been there but I hear they have some good food selections."
"You've never been there?" Finn shook his head and I gasped. "And why haven't you? Oh, my God! You poor child."
"I'm pretty loaded, actually." I ignored that.
Finn starts the car and we start driving towards the joint. "No wonder you look so miserable—no offense."
He chuckles. "None taken."
We arrived at the CHILLIN' LOUNGE and I get us a table near the window. We sat and had light conversations as I recommended some of the best food choices we served. "So, you're the manager here? I thought Dane owned this place?" He asks, looking around nervously.
"He's not here, so I'm holding down the fort."
"Oh." He seems to have relaxed a bit. "You're doing a good job. Here's to you." We raise our glasses then took a sip.
My initial impression of Finn is starting to change. At first, I thought he was just another rich, pretty frat boy looking out for his own interests. But after spending the day with him, I've come to realize that he is still that rich, pretty frat boy looking out for his own interest. And I've learned that he is a lonely boy trying to find his way like the rest of us. His parents are opulent but were too busy to pay much attention to him. He is an only child. He joined the fraternity in hopes of having a familial bond he severely lacked.
Finn wasn't looking to date anyone and neither was I. Like me, he too just wanted to be friends and see how it goes.
"Hey, Siana," I hear a voice say. I look up from the delicious plate of pasta I was devouring to catch Chris coming towards our table.
"Oh, hey." He completely ignores my greeting as he shoots glares at Finn. I look at Finn to see his face completely wiped of emotions as he stares back at Chris. I know Chris is closely associated with the frat brothers, so I don't know where this hostility is coming from. The two don't say anything for a moment and the tension in the atmosphere grew thick. Chris's jaw clenches and he turns to me.
