Me and Jay walk into Mal and Evie's dorm.
"Yo-ho-ho!" Jay shoes off his new jersey.
"Hey!" Carlos laughs.
"Nice dress, Penda." Evie looks at my dress.
"Cute fit, right?" I sit down next to Mal.
"Did your plan work with Jane? Are you going over to see the wand?" Jay asks.
"Do you think that I would be going through every single spell in this book if I hadn't completely struck out?" Mal seems a bit tensed.
"Oh, someone's in a bad mood." Carlos says from his spot on the floor.
"My mom's counting on me! I can't let her down!" Mal thumps Carlos on the back of his head.
"It's okay to let your parents down." I tell Mal.
"Your parent isn't Maleficent." Mal looks at me.
"Your parents aren't an Outland Pridelander, an annoying meerkat and a farting warthog." I smack her arm.
"We can do this!" Jay gets our attention. "If we stick together."
"And we won't go back until we do. Because we're rotten..." Mal catches me by surprise.
"To the core." They all say together.
"What the frick?" I ask.
"It's our catchphrase." Evie goes back to sewing.
"My catchphrase is 'utani' because it means 'joke' in Swahili. Whenever I pull a prank on someone, I say 'utani'. My best catchphrase is 'just assume'. Sort of my thing." I smirk.
"Well, you're one of us now." Mal says. I grin from ear to ear.
"Oh, yeah. I found out that Fairy Godmother blesses Ben with the wand at coronation and we all get to go. I have nothing to wear, of course." Mal looks at her as someone knocks on the door. "What?"
"Hold that thought." Mal walls over to the door.
"If it's the daughter of Peter Pan, tell her I'm dead." I gulp.
Mal opens the door to see Ben. "Hey, Mal. I didn't see you guys today. I was just wondering If you had any questions or anything...that... you needed..."
Mal looks at us. "Not that I know of."
"Actually, Ben, when were you going to tell me about your blessing at the coronation?"
"I just assumed you knew. I just told Minnie and Maggie in the hallway so...I assumed they've...messaged...you." Ben says.
"You 'just assumed'? Why don't I sneak into your room tonight while you're sleeping and 'just assume' you're dead so I can bury you in a graveyard?" I roll my eyes.
"Sorry." Ben smiles at me. He looks back at Mal. "Okay. All right. Well, uh, If you need anything, just, uh-" Ben goes to walk away.
"Oh, wait!" Mal makes Ben stop. "Um, is it true that we all get to go to your coronation?"
"Yeah, the whole school goes." Ben smiles.
"Wow. That is beyond exciting. Do you think that It's a possibility that the four of us could stand in the front row next to the Fairy Godmother, just so we could soak up all that goodness?" Mal asks him.
"I wish you could. Up front it's just me, my folks, and my girlfriend." Ben says.
"And your girlfriend?" Mal questions.
"Yeah. I'm sorry." Ben keeps on smiling.
"Okay. Thanks, bye." Mal shuts the door.
"Oh, but, no, there's plenty of-" Ben gets interrupted by the door.
"And thanks for telling me I'm not allowed up front!" I shout.
"I was going to tell you!" Ben shouts from the hallway.
"Sooner rather than later! Like father, like son!" I scoff.
"Says the one!"
"MY dads weren't angry, tantrum throwing beasts once upon a time!" I walk up to the door.
"Well my mom isn't dead!" Ben bangs on the door. "Penny, I'm sorry."
"No, no, you're right. My mom is dead. Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for reminding me what's gonna make me different of Family Fun Day!" I kick the door. I hear Ben walk away.
"I think It's time that Bennyboo got himself a new girlfriend." Mal suddenly smirks. "And I need a love spell." Carlos throws her book to her. I get a message from my friends.
Margaret- me and ming heard it all
Me- i'm fine now
Ming- do you need a talk
Me- not now later
"Are you okay, Penny?" Carlos asks me. I nod.
"It's the hard knock life." I sigh.
"It's the hard knock life." Mal sits down next to me.
"It's the hard knock life." Carlos shuts his laptop.
"It's the heard knock life." Jay also sits down next to me.
"What does that mean?" Evie asks.
"It means 'life sucks'." I answer.
"Oh, then, yeah." Evie goes back to sewing.
"What kind of spell do you need, Mal?" I ask her.
"A love spell." Mal smirks.
