The challanges of motherhood start right from conception. Long before the little treasure begins to form deep within, the mother is already vomiting and suffering morning sickness. Soon after the hormons keeks in, not to mention the exhaustion that accompanies pregnancy. Then the moment of reckoning comes as the bundle of joy is finally being brought into the world. These are only the beginnings of the burdens of motherhood.
The female of all species of animals are very protective of their young. This instinct comes naturally due to the labours of mother hood. Try touching a lioness' cab, and watch out for her reaction!
Believe it or not, God designed the whole process for a good reason. The relationship that a loving parent has with her/his child is a reflection of how it is between God and His children. He loves and values them because He paid a very dear prize to bring them fourth as new spiritual beings.
For one, Jesus endured alot of tribulation here on earth during his time in ministry. This period of suffering climaxed with Him being crucified on the cross at calvary. This were the birth pains of the birth of the church.
In the book of John 10:11-15, Jesus expresses His love for the church.
John 10:11-15
I am the good shephard who is willing to die for the sheep. When the hired man who is not a shephard and does not own the sheep, sees a wolf coming, he leaves the sheep and runs away, so the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them, the hired man runs away because he is only a hired man and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shephard, as the Father knows me and i know the father, in the same way i know my sheep and they know me, and i am willing to die for them.
In a different portion of scripture, Jesus warns against the attempt by anyone to separate any of His children from Him:
Mathew 18:6-7
If anyone should cause one of these littleones to lose his faith in me, it would be better for such a person to have a large millstone tied round his neck, and be drowned in the deep sea. How terible for the world that there are things that make people lose their faith, such things will always happen, but how terrible for the one who causes them!
Jesus knows that He is the source of life to those who believe in Him. And if anyone loses faith in Him, they will be disconnected from their source of eternal life.
Jesus loves His own and guards them jealously.
Jesus loves you. He longs to spend time with you, and to express His love to you. He longs to restore to you a lot that was lost. He longs to restore your soul to the potential that you lost. He longs to make you more like Himself. Its His care that will make you great and His power that will keep you safe.
You treasure and protect what you value, the same way God treasures and protects those He values - You and me. But you don't belong to His family until you consciously chose to.
So anytime you see a mother watching out for her child, know that God is watching out for those who honour Him and consider Him as their Father. You can choose to be one!
