It was a cold night, a silent night here in the village. I remember the cold, I also remember the sickening feeling that came over me just moments before I lost everything in the flames of the Bones. I remember the sounds, smells, and sight that was before my young six-year-old eyes.
I was sleeping in my bed, my brother was sleeping in his bed right across from me in our room. It was late in the night, many of us were sleeping some guards were on the lookout but not they nor their dragons saw it coming. In the silence of the night, on the cool breeze came death. I slowly woke up when I sensed something moving towards my home. I got of bed and walked over to the window, looking out into the night sky. The moon's light shined down on everything, including something moving above us. I was confused by what I saw and shook my brother to wake him up.
"Kiza, go back to sleep." My brother whispered as he rolled over.
"Akin there's something outside flying above the village," I whispered to him but he still didn't wake up. I went back to the window and looked up, there was something above the village. Maybe it was some riders checking the sky, but normally they would use dragon breath to inform the riders on the ground that it was them. These riders were using fire breath at all. I had a very bad feeling about these riders and I knew they were our enemies when they dive bombed the village with fire.
The sounds of people screaming, the smell of homes and people burning filled the air. Now everyone was up, alerted in the fact that we were under attack. The riders rushed out of their homes and mounted their dragons, they flew off to fight the enemy riders. Akin was now awake and standing beside me looking at the fight in the sky. Mother rushed into our room in fear.
"Children away from the window and come on now!" She shouted and pulled us away from the door and down the stairs. The sky was literally on fire when we went outside, rider vs. rider, dragon against dragon, blood appeared to be raining from the sky. Father was outside shouting orders to the riders, mother started pulling us towards the forest. We were leaving father behind and I couldn't understand, I didn't want that so I pulled away from her. "Kiza!" She shouted my name as I ran towards father who was about to mount Starlit, his female dragon.
"Father!" I shouted making him and Starlit look at me.
"Kiza, what are you doing here?! You need to go with your mother!" He shouted, Starlit used her wing to cover us both as another dragon dived down burning as it went. "Go to your mother and flee my child."
"But what about you, father? I'm so scared father." I started crying, father whipped away the tears and hugged me tightly.
"Listen to me Kiza, you have to leave with your mother and brother. Go to safety and I'll find you all." When he whispered that to me, I wasn't believing it.
"But I want father to come with us," I begged him, he closed his eyes and kissed my head.
"Kiza listen to me, you are special. You have a power unlike any other, one day you'll find your dragon and you'll see what that power is," he pulled me close and hugged me tightly. "I love you Kiza, I love your brother and mother. Never forget that I love you all and will be with you forever." He pulled back and mounted Starlit, he looked at me with sad yet proud eyes. "Never lose sight of who you are Kiza, you are the greatest." That was the last words I ever heard from my father before he left me there. Another mother saw me just staring up at the blood-filled sky and took me away into the forest.
Later on, I found my mother and brother, I told her that father went to go fight. She gave me a sad smile and hugged me. Akin listened to mother words, only being a year older than me he seemed to understand things better then me. He was sad from mothers words, I went over and hugged him tightly. The next morning some surviving riders came back to our hideout, only a few survived the attack from last night. My father wasn't one of them, mother cried so did the other woman who's husbands died. We went out to find the bodies of our loved ones, the bodies of the dragons and their riders. Some dragons were missing, I heard one of the riders saying if the dragon was missing that meant the dragon's blood would be used to make weapons. Akin found fathers body along with Starlit right next to each other. Akin started shaking in rage, mother fell to her knees crying, I just stood there in shock. I kept hearing fathers words to me, I was completely in shock.
It took us a few hours to burn our loved ones and their dragons body burned with them. Mother cried as fathers body turned to ash, the other dragons lite the bodies on fire with their flames. Everyone stood and watched as the bodies burned, releasing their souls. Akin held my hand tight, as we watched fathers body burn away.
"We'll avenge father and our people. They deserve to die for hurting our people without reason, they'll all die." Akin whispered with rage behind his words. I squeezed his hand.
"We will brother, they won't get away with this," I whispered ready for revenge.
