Bella's parents had Bella and then tried to have another child. This little girl had just had her first birthday when shed gotten sick and passed away in the hospital. Heartbroken, Bella's parents vowed to never try to have another child. They ended up distancing themselves from Bella, who was eight at the time, and ended up growing up all alone. Her parents had gradually become mean to her, as if they'd put the blame for the baby girl's death on Bella's shoulders. They often left her home alone and didn't speak to her at all when they were at home.
Bella thought it was a miracle that the demon had found her. Just in time, because Bella's father had begun physically abusing her just weeks before. There wasn't any doubt what Bella wanted in the deal.
