After Sergeant Roe left the auditorium was quite for a quick second but it was quickly broken when people started talking and it turned to chaos.

    Oh my cheeseburgers, I thought.

"We're going to die!" Ari yelled.

Well so much for being the optimistic one.

"Ari, calm down. We're not going to die," Abby assured, but it sounded as she wasn't even sure.

"I need to join," I said before I even knew it. I don't know what made me say that but it just felt right. I knew that I didn't want to be here waiting hopelessly with a war going on. I'm pretty fit since I've been in so many sports, so I might be a good soldier, but I know that I'm not going to wait here, I need to be part of it.

"What did you say, Li?" Ari said.

"I'm going to join to be a soldier."

"What!? No you're not! We're not losing you" Danny said.

"Daniel, I'm serious. I know I have a chance at living, and if I die I want to die protecting my country and the people I love," I said. Cheesy, I know, but I meant every single word.

He looked at me and finally realized that I was dead serious. Maybe it was that I called him Daniel (I never call him that) or maybe he just knows me that well.

"I know your very stubborn and you won't change your mind once you set it to something, so I won't even try to change your mind. However, that doesn't mean I won't be on your side to protect you," Danny said turning to me with his mischievous grin. That brought tears to my eyes because I knew him since I can remember, he never left me for people who probably were ten times better than me, he always stayed by my side whenever I needed him. I knew he would continue doing that even when there was a world war going on. I knew I would take a bullet for him without a hesitation.
Gosh when did I get so sappy?

"Hey! You guys can't be having a best friend moment without us!" Ari and Abby said looking us with a frown.
"Group hug!" I yell and the people passing by give us a look at our hug convention.

"You know I can't join right?" Ari whispered.

We all nodded, we knew her family needed her because they were struggling with money.

I didn't even need to look at her to know Abby couldn't join, her situation was similar to Ari but she had if worst.

Her father had cancer.

"Hey! Don't look so down you guys, Abby and I will look after each other here and you two protect each other over there, okay?" Ari bursted out.

We all nodded but you could feel the sadness in the air, we have always sticken together and now we were finally going our own ways.

"Be safe."

"Love you."

"We will meet again."

"Bye."

Danny and I headed to ward the hallway and Abby and Ari went to the exit to go home.

I looked back to see two of my best friends leave and I memorized their faces because I knew there was a chance that I might not see them again.

I braced myself.
