Cardi POV
"Mama said she'd be back by now to sing me happy birthday."Jeremiah pouted, disappointed. "I know but maybe something came up. She'll be here,"I assured him but quite frankly, I wasn't sure myself.
First off, his dad didn't even call to wish him a happy birthday. All he did was send a text saying, and I quote, "hey bitch! Tell my son happy sixth birthday" to Nicki. First off, he's seven now. He's not six anymore. Son of a bitch didn't even know how old his oldest son was!
And Nicki has been gone all day with no word on where she was or when she'd be coming home. Jeremiah has faced constant disappointment with his parents and I honestly felt bad for him. So, earlier, I took him to see that new marvel movie at the theater and to his favorite restaurant for lunch. It's the least I could do for him at the moment.
"I told you we could wait until she gets here."
"Yeah. I guess so,"He laid his head on the table beyond dismay. "Just, what a bummer!"He screamed angrily banging his fist against the top of the table.
"Jeremiah, calm down. I said she'll be here."I repeated, moving the cake away from his reach before he did something to mess it up. He and I spent three hours baking that cake together and I won't let him ruin because of his sorrow. Not on my watch!
"They just make me so mad!"He yelled. "Who?"I asked.
"My parents! They fuck right on over me!"
"Don't say that!"I scolded him. "Daddy says it."He shot back.
"They been doing this since I was little!"
"You saying that like you grown up."I chuckled trying to lighten the mood.
"I am growing the hell up! And my parents need to get their act together! What, they want me to turn out like my daddy?"
"No, baby, they just-."I didn't know what to say. "Just what?"He questioned.
"Just don't have time for me?! Is that what you were going to say? That's why they got you, damn baby sitter! I'm not a baby!"He cried. I got up and went around the table to pick him up. I knew this would happen. I knew he'd eventually break down about his parents and spazz out. I just didn't think he'd do it to me.
"My daddy left me, man! And mama always gon' at work. It's like I'm raising myself."He whined.
"You're not, I'm raising you. You'll always have me Jeremiah."
"You promise?"
"I swear."I wiped away his tears.
"I love you Ms.Bacardi."He kissed my cheek. "I love you too. You're like a son to me."I smiled. "Hey! How about we prank your mother for when she gets here?"I suggested to try to get his mind off of the situation.
"Yeah we can put onions in her slice of cake!"He was excited now.
"Shit, lets do it."i got up, gassing his idea. We found some onions in the cabinet and cut a large piece of it. I cut her piece of cake and carefully slid it into the middle of the slice. "This is what she gets for holding up my party!"He hollered.
"Yeah!"I agreed. I got the plate and sat it in front of the chair Nicki was going to sit at. "My whoopie cushion!"He told himself and ran off. He came back with the black whoopie cushion and sat it in the chair.
"There."
"Now we sit and wait."
We sat and waited for several minutes. The elevator dinged and Nicki walked through the living room. Finally she's here... Miah got up and ran to her.
"Where were you?"He asked, breathing hard, happy that his mom was home.
"Something happened at work baby, I'm sorry I'm late."She told him. She kissed his cheek and he bought her to the table.
"We baked a cake for my birthday."He told her. "And Ms.Bacardi took me to the movies and out to eat!"He rambled.
"That's good sweetie! Did you have fun?"
"Yes! Those transformers were going at it!"He replied.
He didn't have not one birthday memory with his parents this time around but I made up for it.
"I got you something,"She handed him the two bags and he looked through. "Sweet!"He said after opening the box. Blue foam posites sat inside of the box, new and nice looking. The other box held some types of Jordan's that I didn't know the exact name of. At least she got him some presents...
"What cake did y'all make?"She asked.
"Chocolate! With pineapple filling. It's what he wanted."I spoke up.
"Babe!"She was astonished. "You're so quiet over there."
Bitch you know you saw me, I thought but returned her kiss anyways.
I got the camera on my phone ready to record her reaction to the cake. We sung happy birthday to Jeremiah and dug in.
"What the hell is this?"She asked, spitting it out. Jeremiah and I erupted in laughter watching her. She rubbed her tongue with the fork trying to get the taste out of her mouth. "That's for almost missing my party!"Miah said through chuckles.
She got up to throw the cake away but I stopped her. "It's only that piece."I told her so she wouldn't throw the whole cake away. "You put an onion in my cake!"She screamed after taking the slice apart.
She threw it away and fixed herself another slice. When she sat down, a fart noise erupted. She gasped and we were full of laughter once again.
Everything was all good for the time being but I knew I'd have to tell Nicki how her son felt about his parents barely ever being there with him.
