Chapter Five
I didn’t really know what I was going to do. I knew I had to go home to the ugly mess that was waiting for me. I knew my mother would be furious if I didn’t come home at all, but it’s only sunset. School’s finally over and I’m sure as hell relived. Then that thought brought me back to Jacob and Jordan.
What was it exactly, that Jacob and Jordan learned inside class? What happened to the book that was inside Jacob’s room that magically disappeared? What did Jacob mean by “his people”?
At this point, I realized that I still has unanswered questions.
Jordan’s party. My mind whispered.
I just got off the bus before my brain could realize it, my trustworthy feet lead me in the direction of Jordan’s house. It didn’t take long to get there, but when I did I was surprised at how many people showed up.
I knew Jordan was a popular guy but I never thought he was this popular. No offence to him, but no person should have this many friends. I didn’t recognize more than half of his friends faces, let alone their names.
I pushed by people who were crowding the doorway. Eventually I spotted Isabelle sitting awkwardly on the sofa with Jordan who was talking to a bunch of football jocks. Half of the jocks were actually paying attention to what Jordan was saying. The other half was eyeballing Isabelle. Which would explain why she was looking awkward.
“Amanda!” Isabelle screamed eagerly while standing up. She eagerly moved swiftly towards me. She seemed willing and ready to leave the party.
“Hey Izzy,” I said while looking around. “Where’s Jacob?”
“I don’t know. I haven’t seen him since we left you two at the school.”
“Oh,” I said.
She leant close to me and whispered, “Can we please go? I don’t like it here. There’s a lot of people I don’t know running around drunk. I want to leave, but Jordan insist on staying.”
She leant back, I could see how much she wanted to leave by just looking into her eyes. I don’t need to use my mind reading skills to know because it’s written on her face.
I nodded my head in agreement. I continued to look around inside the endless crowd on unknown faced. My mouth opened to tell my best friend my plans. “I just have to--”
My words stopped as screams of fear came out of my mouth when someone from behind me picked me up and tossed me over their shoulder. I screamed wildly at the stranger to get him to put me down.
“Babe, it’s me!” I heard Jacob though my own cried of fear. I stopped screaming and he put me back down. I felt my cheeks blush in embarrassment.
“What the hell?” I said, well, yelled with the blasting music.
“I was just trying to surprise you, that’s all.”
Then, I realized what I had to ask. How could I ask him? Definitely not in front of all these people.
“Can I talk to you for a second?”
“Yeah, sure.” He waved, then he walked over to Jordan. Man, I wish I could read lips, rather that or someone turn down the music that way I could actually concentrate and use my mind reading powers.
I turned to Isabelle. “Can you wait for a few minutes before we leave? I have to talk to Jacob.”
She paused, continuing to have that sorrow filled look inside her eyes, but she finally gave a short nod. I felt really bad for leaving her in a situation like this, but it was necessary.
“Come on,” Jacob whispered as he appeared at my side.
He look my hand and lead me upstairs to what was a surprisingly empty bedroom. Immediately he turned around and forced a kiss from me. I pulled away and took several steps backwards shaken by his action.
“Are you drunk?” I asked while tasting the alcohol residue he left on my lips.
“Only love drunk.” He said while smiling evilly.
Just great. It would have been hard enough getting answered out of him if he were normal, but if he’s drunk then god-knows-what I’m going to get out of him.
He stumbled closer where he stole another kiss. I angrily forced him away.
“Well, congrads on being drunk, I bet that’ll do a lot to your brain.” I mumble sarcastically while taking slow steps to the door. “Sadly, Isabelle really needs me and--”
“Isabelle can wait.” He said in more of a serious tone than before. His eyes locked on mine, darkening.
He moved between me and the door and once again pressed his drunken lips against mine, but this time he learned by holding me close so I couldn’t pull away. I felt his hand starting to go up the back of my shirt. My eyes flashed open. I used all of strength to break free from his strong, but drunken grasp. Once I broke free he tried to grab me again, but I slapped him across his face causing him to spin around, with his back facing me.
“Amanda…” He said angrily. He took both of his hands and strung his figures through his light brown hair, then I saw it.
The tattoo. The witch tattoo. The black and white eclipse of a sun and the moon, along with a six pointed star in the center. A red star.
“Jacob, you’re…” I wasn’t able to say the words. Eventually finding the words seemed almost impossible.
As far as I know, I don’t have any marks. Vampire or witch.
“Oh shit!” He said while turning around, leaving one hand on his neck. “Did you see that?”
I didn’t say anything.
He started walking toward me. Every step he took, I took one backwards until a wall stopped me from going any further. Jacob came face-to-face with me. I could smell the alcohol from his breath.
Jacob reached his hand out and tightened it around my neck.
“What did you see?” He asked with a darkening glow in his eyes.
I was breathing rapidly. It was getting hard for me to breath. I had to think of something and quick.
A spell! My mind suggested.
“What did you see?” He repeated slower.
I inhaled about two times before I has the ability to answer his question.
“I s-saw your war-warlock tattoo. A-a red th-third level ta-tattoo.” I stuttered gasping for breath. By the time I was finished answering his question, I has my spell all planed out.
He glared at me. Satisfied that I answered his question, angry that I saw what I saw.
“Wait,” He said while looking away. “Humans don’t know what the colours mean.” He turned back and waved his finger in front of my face. They were glowing with a red, dusty, coloured magic. He asked me another question with his eyes hungry for an answer. “What are you?”
He tightened his grip. I started to gasp even more than before.
I started chanting the words inside of my head. I raised my fingers to my side and the spoke,
“Help my bo-boyfriend s-see,
Wh-what he’s do-doing to me.”
He was staring at my fingers, then back at me in disbelief.
“You’re a wi--” He started to sate but was cut off when my glowing magic started to blast light across the room.
