She cut her first period to take Alex to school. She had asked Patch to borrow his truck and he agreed. Under certain condition.
That is how they have a shadow. He trialed behind them, silently. He didn't ask about anything, complain or talk in anyway.
She could tell Alex was grateful. She walked with Alex into her classroom. All her classmates stopped and stared at them as Sara sat her down.
But what got most of their attention was Patch. To her, he was average hight and lean. But to a bunch of thirteen-year old who's hormones where starting to develop, he was a god to them.
She kissed Alex on the forehead. "ill see you when you get home. And if anyone hurts you, you let me know, ok?" she said, loud enough for the class to understand what is going on. Even Patch understood, and he never does.
He walked past her and stood in front of Alex, with his arms crossed. She winced at the stance, his body language being intimidating. "if anyone messes with you, you let me know and Ill deal with it. Understand?" he said, his voice tough. He glanced at the kids in the room, giving each and everyone a hard glance. Some kids looked away, and others blushed. But the defiance in their eyes made her stomach clench. Did they just make it worse for her?
Patch wrapped an arm around her shoulder and they exited the classroom. Once they where out, Patch scowled and pulled out his phone.
"what are you doing?" she asked him as he started vigorously texting.
"this is bullshit. One of our own shouldn't be in a position like this. This isn't what family is fucking for." He punctuated the last of his statement with a forceful press to his phone.
"so who are you texting so angrily then, huh?"
"family. If my uncles can breed like rabbits, then those rabbits can be useful for once in their lives." He grabbed her hand and pulled her down the hall and to the front entrance.
"are you sure that's going to work?" he nodded.
"my family can be annoying and assholes at times, but we're family. And we don't leave our family behind." She smiled. She couldn't help it. A huge grin broke out on her face as she smiled at him.
"your kind of hot when you go on rants about your family." He threw her a look over his shoulder.
"what are you talking about? I'm hot all the time." She snorted.
"jeez how do you sleep? Doesn't your ego kick you out of bed all the time?" he rolled his eyes as they drove out of the parking lot. "how will we know if they will do it? If they will help her?"
"we will just have to wait and see." He said as he drove.
"but what if they up their game? What if they are crueller to her because of what we did? I know bullies and I know that nothing will actually deter them except a good smack to the face." She started to breath heavily.
He grabbed her hand and held tightly. "its going to be ok, Sara. You'll see. My family is loyal to a fault. After all, we are wolves." He grinned at her. she took a shaky breath and squeezed his hand.
"alright. But I want to pick her up. even if I must leave school early. I need to see she's ok."
"she will be. Don't worry, our family looks out for each other." She bit her lip.
"alright." She said skeptically, and they drove in silence.
They reached the school just as first period ended. He walked her to class, carrying her bag for her which she found sweet. He gave her the bag and kissed her forehead.
